Camera Won’t Turn On

When the camera doesn’t turn on.

Button was not pushed hard enough

Press on/off button again. The button may not have been pushed hard enough.

Low or bad battery

Another reason why your camera may not turn on is because the battery may be low or nonfunctioning. If your battery is low, recharge the camera until the battery is full. If camera has been charged, but the camera turns on for a very short time and then turns off unexpectedly see Camera turns off when in use. In this case, the battery is nonfunctioning because the battery may not be holding the charges sufficiently. In that case, the battery needs to be replaced see Nikon Coolpix S630 Battery Replacement.

Lens Does Not Extend After Turning The Camera On

After pushing the on/off button, the camera turns on but the lens do not extend.

Camera error

Turn camera on/off again. If problem persists, check other solutions below.

Low or bad battery

The lens may be stuck if the camera unexpectedly shuts off when the battery was bad. The battery may have been low on power and may cause the camera to shut off unexpectedly. In that case, the lens may not fully extent when trying to turn the camera on again. Make sure to fully charge the battery, then try to turn the camera on/off again. If recharging the camera and then turning the camera on/off again doesn’t work, then try replacing the battery Nikon Coolpix S630 Battery Replacement, then turning the camera on/off again.

The coverings for the lens are stuck

The lens may be stuck if the coverings for the lens are stuck. The covering may not fully close or open when the camera is turned on. See Lens is jammed.

The lens is jammed

The lens may be jammed. Possible reasons why the lens can be jammed:

  • If the camera was dropped when the lens was extended. The lens may have been damaged.
  • If the camera unexpectedly shuts off when it was in use.

When the lens is jammed, the lens will not be able to extend when turning on/off the camera. In this case, see Lens replacement.

Camera Cannot Take Picture/Video When Shutter Button Is Pressed

When the shutter button is pressed, the camera does not take picture/video.

The shutter button was not pressed hard enough

Press the shutter butter harder.. The button may not have been pushed hard enough or may be jammed. If button is jammed, then see Shutter button is jammed.

Camera error

Turn camera on/off again. If problem persist, check other solutions below.

Memory is full

There may not be enough internal/card memory left on the camera.

When the internal memory is full, you will be unable to take pictures or record videos because there is insufficient space to store the content. In that case, reformat settings so that the contents are saved on the memory card see Camera cannot save photos/videos.

If the contents are saved onto the card memory, check to see if there is sufficient space on the card. When the card memory is full, you will be unable to take pictures or record videos because there is insufficient space to store the content. In that case, see Camera cannot save photos/videos to either transfer contents to a computer or replace/upgrade memory card.

Shutter button is jammed

Another reason why you are unable to take pictures or record videos is if the shutter button is jammed. If you are able to push the shutter button and you can hear the “click” noise, then the shutter button is not jammed. If you are unable to hear the “click” noise after repeatedly pushing the shutter button or if the button seems “stuck”, then the shutter button is jammed. In that case the shutter button needs to be replaced Nikon Coolpix S630 Shutter Button Replacement.

Camera Cannot Save Photos/Videos

The camera cannot save photos/videos after the picture/video is taken.

Memory is full

The most common solution to this problem is to check the memory. There are two types of memory: internal and card memory. Internal memory is the memory space on the camera. Card memory is an external component that adds additional memory space. Some examples of memory cards are Secure Digital card ( SD card), miniSD card, microSD card, etc. Different types of memory cards have varying storage capability ranging from 1GB to 32 GB. The higher the storage capability the more photos and videos you can store into the memory card.

When the memory is full, you will be unable to save photos/videos. If the internal memory is full, reformat the memory so that contents are stored to the memory card see Reformatting memory.

If the card memory is full, you can either transfer the contents to a computer or replace/upgrade card memory.

To transfer contents to a computer

  • Make sure to install the software “Nikon Transfer” into computer

Note: This software should come with the camera. If not, download online.

  • Turn off camera
  • Connect USB cable to camera and computer
  • Turn the camera on
  • Follow the appropriate instructions for your operating system.
    • For Windows Vista
      • “Autoplay” dialog will be displayed.
      • click on “Copy pictures to a folder on my computer using Nikon Transfer”
    • For Windows XP
      • “Autoplay” dialog will be displayed.
      • Click “Nikon Transfer Copy pictures to a folder on my computer”
      • Then click “OK”
    • For Mac OS X
      • Nikon Transfer will start automatically if “YES” was selected in the Auto-launching setting dialog when Nikon Transfer was first installed.

Wrong format

To format the memory so that contents are saved to the internal memory

  • Press the “MENU” button
  • Select the “SETUP” menu
  • Select the “FORMAT CARD” option

To format the memory so that contents are saved to the card memory

  • Press the “MENU” button
  • Select the “SETUP” menu
  • Select the “FORMAT MEMORY” option

Note: The “FORMAT MEMORY” option will only show up if a memory card is inserted in the camera.

Old memory card

You can replace the card memory with a new one with the same storage capacity or upgrade to a card memory with a higher storage capacity. To replace/upgrade card memory see Removing Nikon Coolpix S630 Memory Card.

Camera Turns Off When In Use

“The camera will suddenly turn off when it is in use.”

Battery is low

Try turning the camera back on. If the camera does not turn on or if it turns off right away, then most likely your battery is low. Recharge the battery and replace it once it’s fully charged.

Battery is bad

A common problem that will cause your camera to suddenly turn off is a bad/dead battery. First check whether the battery is low by recharging it and if after recharging the battery the camera won’t turn back on, it is most likely that the battery is dead and the best choice would be to replace the battery. See Nikon Coolpix S630 Battery Replacement.

Images Are Not Clear

“When taking pictures, the images will come out blurry or with dark spots even after focusing the camera to the appropriate settings.”

Dirty lens

If the lens is dirty your pictures may come out blurry or with dark spots. Try cleaning the outside of the lens with a clean dry cloth.

Bad lens

If after cleaning the lens the pictures are still coming out with imperfections, you may have to replace the lens.

Cannot Zoom In/Out

“When trying to zoom in or out, the zoom button won’t work or it won’t turn”

Camera error

Turn camera off and then on again. If problem persists, see zoom button is jammed.

Zoom button is jammed

If the zoom button is jammed, try gently turning it. If the button won't turn, the best option is to replace the zoom button.
