PS5 DualSense Controller Not Turning On

1. Check Battery Level: Ensure that the controller has sufficient battery charge. Connect the controller to a power source using a USB cable and verify if the battery is charging. If possible, try using a different USB cable or power source.
2. Verify Connections: Check the connection between the controller and the console. Reconnect the controller to the console using a USB cable to establish a stable connection.
3. Restart Your Console: Perform a restart of your gaming console. Turn it off, wait a few seconds, and then turn it back on. This simple step can resolve software glitches that may be causing the controller to be unresponsive.

With most instances of your controller experiencing any issue, it could be an issue with the software that allows you to use it. One of the easiest ways to resolve this issue is to reset your controller.

1. Turn off your console, and disconnect your controller from your USB cable.
2. Locate the small reset button on the back of the controller.
3. Push the button with a small, pointy object, such as an unfolded paper clip (or a similar object). The button is in a tiny hole next to the top right screw on the bottom outer shell.
4. Hold the button down for several seconds, and release.

In addition, updating your controller firmware can also resolve many different issues.

1. Connect the controller to the console using a USB cable.
2. Go to Settings > Devices > Controllers > Update System Software.
3. If there is an update available, then you should update. This will resolve temporary issues with your controller's software.

It could be entirely possible that your controller could not turn on due to an issue with charging. We have a troubleshooting page specifically for charging issues; however, we do have some basic tips for you to try and get it charging...

• Verify Charging Cable Connection: Ensure the USB cable is securely connected to the controller and power source. Sometimes, a loose connection can prevent proper charging.
• Check USB Cable and Power Source: Ensure your USB-C cable is functional and not damaged. You will also want to ensure that the cable is charged and synced or charged and data. You should also ensure that the power source is on and output the proper amount for charging.
• Clean your controller's charging port: Inspect the charging port to see if the port is clean. If your charging cable does not sit flush against the bottom edge, the port may be clogged if it sits at an angle or has a loose fit. Use an air duster and a small implement to pick out the dirt. You can use a toothpick that has been shaved to fit or a non-conductive tool. Avoid inserting anything metal into the port to prevent damage to the controller or yourself.

One minor point of failure for a battery-powered device is the battery, especially if the controller is blinking orange.

• If you've had your controller for an extended period, the battery inside your controller might need replacing or reconnecting.
• Ensure the battery is connected to the motherboard.
• Old batteries are more likely to stop holding charges. Consider replacing the battery with a new one.

It is possible that the ribbon cables that connect the motherboard to the trigger assembly are faulty or have been disconnected.

• If you have modded your controller with new triggers, make sure the ribbon cables are properly connected between the motherboard and trigger assemblies.
• If these cables appear damaged then you will need to replace the cables.

If replacing the battery and the charging assembly does not allow you to charge your controller, the issue might be with the motherboard.

• Disassemble your controller and visually inspect the motherboard for damage (Broken components, burns, liquid damage).
• If needed, replace your controller motherboard with an undamaged motherboard.
