I completed disassembly and was about to start reassembly with the new screen when I noticed a very small spring.
The spring was just sitting there magnetically attached to the watch internals, and unclear where it came from.
If anyone has any idea where it should go, please let me know

Looks like there are springs under the two "structural guides" (not sure what else to call them) on opposite sides of the watch.
They also tie into the screws inside the watch band grooves. Each has two springs, one of mine came out.
No idea how to get the spring back in without potentially causing more damage, so I left it out and things seem to be working fine.
Here is a picture pointing out the spring locations...
