Lenovo Thinkpad E14 Wi Fi connects and disconnects

Lenovo Thinkpad E14 Type 20RA,20RB [S/N PF2CJBZQ fails to auto-connect, when it finally connects, after trying many online fixes, persistently, it connects for about 1 minute and then disconnects. All my other wifi devices are connected on their own with no problems.

Should I replace the internal wireless card, and if so, which model card?

Hi @rcrepar

Try using the laptop's WiFi as close as possible to your home network router i.e. <20cm and check if it connects and maintains a stable connection.

If it does it may be an antenna problem e.g. loose antenna connection to the WLAN card in the laptop.

Here's the hardware maintenance manual for the laptop.

Go to p.73 to view the procedure to remove/replace the WLAN card. This will allow you to check if the two antennas are securely connected to the card.

Hi Jayefef:, thanks much for your reply. The link you sent has something wrong, an error reaching it. see attached image

.This failure to connect happened 2 days ago when I installed a new TP-LINK router which proved to be defective in the wifi only and I returned, and reinstalled my old router.

I have checked the two antennas and they are firmly attached and moved them a little to help the contact. Disconnected the card, and carefully dusted the contacts.

I tried many fixes to get the wi fi connection and the most I was able to get is a connection that lasts for about 1 minute and then disconnects. Five other devices that use wi-fi have reconnected automatically without problems, This laptop is about 3 feet from the router and has been used in the same location for the last 8 years.

Your opinion is highly appreciated since I am in the dark about this problem.

Raul

PS: Should I replace the WLAN card?

As I said try it <20cm if possible, from the router. It may not be the antenna connections the antennas may be damaged where they pass through the hinge to the lid.

I have no trouble accessing the manual when I click on the link. Also there's no image attached by you that I can see. Here's how to do it on ifixit Aggiungere immagini ad una domanda.

Try downloading, installing and running this free WiFi sniffer program and use it to locate your WiFi network and check the signal strength of the WiFi signal as detected by your laptop.

Remember that the signal strength is in -dBm so the higher the number the lower the actual strength of the signal.

A perfect signal is -30dBm, an excellent signal is -50dBm, a good signal is -60dBm, a fair signal is -67dBm. Anything >-70dBm is poor and unreliable.
