A black line on your screen can be caused by various issues, ranging from software problems to hardware defects. Here are some steps you can take to diagnose and potentially fix the problem:
1. Restart Your Device:
- Sometimes a simple restart can resolve minor glitches. Restart your computer or device and see if the black line disappears.
2. Check Cables and Connections:
- If you're using an external monitor, ensure that all cables are securely connected. Try disconnecting and reconnecting the cables, or use different cables if you have them.
3. Update Graphics Drivers:
- Outdated or corrupted graphics drivers can cause display issues. Update your graphics drivers to the latest version available from your graphics card manufacturer’s website (e.g., NVIDIA, AMD, Intel).
4. Adjust Display Settings:
- Go to your display settings and try adjusting the resolution and refresh rate. Sometimes changing these settings can fix display issues.
5. Test with Another Monitor:
- If you have access to another monitor, connect it to your computer. If the black line doesn't appear on the second monitor, the issue might be with your original monitor.
6. Check for Screen Damage:
- Inspect your screen for any physical damage. If there are cracks or other signs of damage, the screen might need to be repaired or replaced.
7. Run a Diagnostic Tool:
- Many manufacturers provide diagnostic tools to test for hardware issues. For example, Dell has built-in diagnostics that can be accessed during startup by pressing F12.
8. Boot in Safe Mode:
- Booting in Safe Mode can help determine if the issue is software-related. If the black line disappears in Safe Mode, a third-party application or driver might be causing the issue.
9. Try a System Restore:
- If the problem started recently, you can try restoring your system to a previous state when the display was working correctly.
If none of these steps resolve the issue, it might be a hardware problem with your monitor or the internal display panel of your laptop. In this case, you may need to contact the manufacturer or take your device to a professional repair service.

Hi @erosaxie
Is it a horizontal line or a vertical line and how wide is it?
Has the laptop been dropped or gotten wet at all?
Post an image of the screen in your question, showing the line.
Here's how to do this on ifixit Aggiungere immagini ad una domanda.
Also please confirm the full model number (and product number) of the laptop as shown on the info label on the bottom of the laptop, in case it is necessary to find compatible replacement parts?

My brother just gave it to me, when it was first given it wasn't there yet. I put it in my dresser (drawer) and since then it has not been removed. Thank you very much for your answer.
