Try starting the laptop in safe mode and check if the display is OK. This is just to eliminate the possibility that it may be a video driver problem that is the cause of the problem

It the problem is still there in safe mode connect an external monitor (TV?) to the laptop's HDMI port and check if the display from the laptop is OK when viewed on the monitor. Don't forget to press the display action key (top row on keyboard) to switch the display between the laptop screen only, the external monitor only or both on together.

If the display on the external monitor is OK then there's a problem either with the video cable/cable connection between the motherboard and the LCD panel or more likely with the LCD panel in the laptop.

Go to p.65 to view the procedure to remove the display assembly. This will also allow you to check if the video cable connection on the motherboard (see p.47 #4) is OK

If you determine that the LCD panel needs replacing there are 4 different panels used in the model. Go to p.22→p.23 Item #3 to find the HP part numbers for the LCD panel. Usually the part number is on the back of the LCD panel if you wish to verify which one is used in your laptop.

Search online for the applicable to your model variant part number only to find suppliers that suit you best.
