Display dissasembly for the laptop?

Taking out the display on my S210 Touch, making it into a external display for my new laptop, since the glass (or plastic?) has cracked.

Hi @Real0ver,

I'm not exactly clear what you're trying to do here. I understand the part about wanting to use it as an external display; I assume you've got some compatible hardware to drive it, right?

But what I don't get is what is it that's cracked? Is the new laptop's screen is cracked and you want to use the display off this one as an external monitor?

If that's the case, you should know that the electronic circuitry that drives the LCD is built into the motherboard, and if you just remove the display you won't just be able to plug it in to your other laptop's external display port without some kind of driver board and power supply.

It's also not apparent exactly what you want to remove. Are you wanting to take the whole display off including the cover and front bezel, camera and antennas, or just remove the LCD from the display?

If it's just the LCD, that part is fairly easy; it's basically a standard way to replace LCDs on many laptops, especially Chromebooks.

  1. Remove the bezel; yours just pries off, no screws or adhesive used.
  2. Remove the four screws securing the LCD to the top cover.
  3. Flip the LCD down onto the keyboard and remove the tape holding the connector in place.
  4. Unplug the LCD cable.

That's it, you're done; the LCD can be removed from the laptop.

If you'd like to watch a video of the procedure, here's one from YouTube.

You can also download the Hardware Maintenance Manual directly from Lenovo that has written instructions on all the repairs there are on your laptop. That should cover you whether you're just removing the LCD or the whole display assembly.

Hope this helps; feel free to clarify what you're trying to do or ask any followup questions you may have. Good luck with your repair!
