Can I add an additional SSD to HP Envy 15-as-014-wm? It already has a HDD.

Hi,
According to the maintenance and service guide for the laptop, taken from this support webpage, you can have both a HDD and an SSD in the laptop,
Go to p.33 to view the necessary pre-requisite steps and then the procedure to insert an SSD drive. Also on p.33 you will find the HP recommended SSD part numbers. Search online using the part number only for the one you want, to find suppliers that suit you. Alternatively you can install any M.2 2280 NVMe SSD at least up to 4TB capacity.
If inserting an SSD, to improve performance I suggest that you install the OS and any 3rd party programs on the SSD and configure the HDD as the storage drive. You can always replace the HDD with an SSD as well.

Thanks a lot, SSDs supported are mentioned as 512 MB and 256 MB, this is too small I think. Can we add higher SSDs of at least 512 GB?

The manual shows GB not MB i.e. 512GB not 512MB.
You can install up to a 4TB (terabit) M.2 2280 PCIe NVMe SSD if you want to pay that much.(1TB = 1000GB or 1024GB depends on whether the manufacturer counts in decimal or binary)
