I dropped my phone in my pool

My phone was underwater for about 5 minutes and it worked just fine after I got it out but then I took off my case to dry it off and I think the case was too tight and some water got in somehow when I took my case off and then my phone started to glitch and not show the screen, I put it in rice and sometimes the phone would turn on for a few minutes and i could use it normally but then the screen turned off again but I could hear the phone working from messages being sent to it, after 24 hours in rice the battery went out and I tried charging the phone and it made a weird noise and the phone wont charge, please help what should I do... I can't let my parents know a bout this they will kill me

Your phone is corroded inside. Chlorine in pool water eats at the board. Take it to a repair shop to have it stripped and cleaned unless it’s been left too long since getting wet. You’ll probably need a new screen as they are always the first to go after water damage. 99% of water damaged Samsung’s we get in don’t get repaired due to the cost of a new screen. Sometimes works out cheaper to buy a new phone.

rice does not fix liquid damage, it needs to be looked at by a technician if you want it repaired

The pool wasn't that deep only about 1.5meter tall, My dad bought this phone off someone but he told me it was never repaired/broken which makes me suspicious that the guy lied since there's definitely water in the camera as I can see the water drops inside it... Its been a week since it was in the water and now the phone turns and charges but it gets hot fast and if i press the button to turn it off just once it shuts down the phone and i have to turn it back on, I'm assuming theres a little bit of water stuck inside and there is water damage, I'll go to a lab someday soon

It was probably not a good idea to try turning it on/charging it before it had a chance to fully dry out. It's usually best to turn the device off completely until it has a chance to dry off before trying to use it again—this minimizes the chances of a short circuit damaging the components within.

That being said, you might still be able to open the phone and clean off any contacts on the motherboard that may have corroded to regain functionality. You'll want to follow our Galaxy S21 Motherboard Replacement Guide to remove the back case and access the motherboard. Then use 91% or higher isopropyl alcohol (99% is ideal) to clean off any corrosion you see. If that doesn't work, you'll likely have to start replacing components.

Check out this Samsung Galaxy S20 Won't Turn On Troubleshooting Page for a list of things you can try to get your phone working again. It isn't an exact match for your phone but a lot of that information should still apply. Good luck with the repair!

I learned the hard way also that IP68 may failed on S21 ultra. Previously, I took a few of shallow pool underwater pics with it and nothing happened other than temporary muffled speaker and wet charging port warning.

But this time, trying not to wet the charging port and speaker, I dip HALF of the phone underwater in a hotel pool for a few seconds to take picture and the screen went greenish and camera failed warning shown. I immediately pulled it out and tried to turn it off, then my phone died.

I left it for a few hours while driving home and took it apart, hairdry each components, put the components in a box of rice and later with a box of silica gel overnight. I started to look for replacement parts such as screen, cameras and speakers.

Luckily the next day when I put it together and plug the charger the screen is fine, but it refuses to charge (grey circle with lightning). Press the volume down and power several times to reset it, then it finally started to charge. I then turned the phone on, the screen stills flickers a bit from the water damage but the phone works but with no touchscreen and fingerprint reader. I unlocked the screen with samsung's find my mobile (google find my phone can't do that) and I managed to get the phone connected to my wifi, allowing foldersync to run its job backing up my phone which I set before. With my data safe and sound, I took the components out again, cleaned it throughly and dry it again in the box with silica gel.

I thought I'd have to replace the screen but the next morning turned out the touchscreen and fingerprint reader worked just fine. Maybe I was just lucky, but I think in any water damage, time is critical to immediately turn the phone off and took the components apart for drying. It is also important to give some time until the components are throughly dry. Don't rush to buy components as they maybe durable enough to survive.

My Samsung s21 fell in a bowl of dish water for about 10 secs, I immediately took it out and took the silicone case off it and dried it. The case and screen protector, protected it so wasn't that wet, but did not protect the charging port. I tried charging it but moisture detected in charging port message came up and to dry it with a cool fan. I dont have a fan so I used the cool setting on my hair dryer for a minute. I tried charging it again and it's charging fine now. I've turned it off for a bit and placed it in a bag of rice. Nightmare morning! I hope it will be OK.

Omg, something similar just happened to me a few hours ago, should I give it some time to dry or should I immediately take it to a repair center? it happened to me with water waste from the laundry machine, so I'm afraid of the components getting corroded
