Old TV/DVR volume only coming out of headphones

Without a make and model it will be harder but try checking the headphone socket in the TV. The socket itself may be faulty

There are usually two ways in which they are connected depending on type.

One type of headphone socket has two internal break contacts and when the headphones are plugged in they break the audio to the TV speakers and connect it to the headphones. When the plug is removed the contacts remake and the TV speakers are back in circuit.

The other type has only a single make contact so that when the headphone plug is inserted the contact makes and this sends a signal to the audio controller in the TV to switch the audio away from the TV speakers and onto the headphone socket. If the contact gets stuck in the operated position the audio will remain on the headphone socket regardless. This happens sometimes with mobile phones but at least you can see the headphone icon is on without the headphones inserted so at least you are aware that it may be the problem.

You can usually tell which type it is by the number of wires connected to it.

The second type needs less.
