You have to replace the entire display unit.

How many times do you want me to repeat the answer?

Joseph we didn't design the system! You'll need to talk to Apple on their failure here.

All we can do is educate you on what we've learned so you have factual data to work off of.

We agree! This shouldn't have happened! Fragile cables should always be replaceable on their own. Affixing the cable to an expensive part like a display should never have been done. Look how many signed the petition! You'er not the only one.

The answer is not accurate. The fix however is difficult because it involves taking the display apart. That means taking the three layers that make up the display to get to the led backlight that IS attached to the display ribbon cables.

Do not replace them with Apple's 3.0 mm, nor the workaround 3.2 they did for the 2018 model. There is a company that makes the piece with a 3.3 mm length. some odd name like RofBoff.

I think a $20 cable plus my time and increasing my skills and knowledge beats $500 for the display assembly, especially given you are getting the 3.0 ribbons that caused the display failure in the first place.

I totally agree both ends of these cables should have their connectors readily available. That is a very low-end Windows design in my book. I can take that in a $250 laptop but not a $3,200 top of the line Mac. We have a 2011 that we keep to run an old copy of GarageBand for binaural beats.

It is sad to see Apple be a total Trump about this.

Could be PR/Marketing bonanza.
