How do I fix the speaker

I press my Bluetooth button and try to go on setting to put some music on and it’s not showing up.

Need to access the 4 screws from the back. Remove the 4 stickers that convers the screws and the screws. They hold the front grey mesh screen. Pull it off gently. You can access the speaker by removing 4 other screws and gently pull the tabs all around. There are two brakets behind that plate that hold the speaker in place, i was able to simply loosen the 2 screws and put the speaker back. As good as new.

— Step 1 : Find the hidden screw holes —

I will spare you agony. This device has four screw holes. You need to open them first before opening anything else. Where are these said screws? Your first guess might be at the bottom, under the black rubber shoes. But alas, no they are not here.

Look closer at the back - the panel with all the ports (USB, power, battery etc). Don’t see anything? Look closer… Still don’t see anything? Well I can assure you the four screws are here. Look for four circles. You see, iHome decided to go all out in hiding the screw holes. Instead of the traditional stickers, the screw holes are blocked with plastic cylinders (that are the same color as the panel).

How to remove this plastic plugs? What worked for me was stabbing - I mean piercing - a hole into the center of these plugs using a tiny screwdriver. I then proceeded to enlarge the hole until the plug disintegrated. Thankfully, the plugs are made of a softer plastic making this possible.

— Step 2: Everything else —

The rest of the teardown is more straightforward. If you plan on reassembling the radio afterwards, watchout for the plastic clips. These bastards are hard to open without breaking. You will encounter them when removing:

1. the front grill/cloth
2. the speaker mount

— Step 3: Repairing the speaker —

If your speaker is rattling around (as in my case), more likely than not, the mount for the speaker has broken. When the mount breaks, the speaker falls (since there is nothing to hold it anymore). When it falls, it breaks the wires connected to it. (The wires are not able to support the weight of the speaker so they break). When the wires break, the speaker is no longer connected to the circuit. This is why no sound comes out of them.

In my case, the mount broke in a way that is not worthwhile repairing. Unfortunately, iHome used a really cheap and ultimately weak way to mount the speaker. They shaved a few cents off manufacturing costs at the expense of reliability.
