MacBook Air 2013 SSD fails to mount

2013 11" MacBook Air 128 GB SSD Connected to Retina Display and Time Machine.

Last used running Xcode instruments, then Time Machine back up because had this not happened I was going to erase due to drive full.

I woke up to flashing folder icon. SSD is MIA, Diagnostic test = no trouble found. Safe Mode, PRAM, SMC, and recovery drives do not work.

The start up chime returned but took away the recovery drive. I tried accessing recovery using CMD +R, CMD +Opt + R and CMD+Opt.+Shift + R.

Only recovery drive found.

Also removed firmware password early on, I think drive was encrypted .

Any help would be awesome!

Are you doing a lot of coding on your system? I find the 128 GB SSD is on the small size considering the quantity of library files. SSD's need to have enough free space for provisioning as well as wear leveling. When you don't have the spare space you can kill your SSD sooner than its intended life.

Replacing the SSD in this model is not very hard, here's the IFIXIT guide: Sostituzione SSD MacBook Air 11" metà 2013. I would recommend getting a larger SSD. Consider a 512 and larger should have a quarter free space and the smaller 128 & 256 should have a third free.

Your options are getting the custom Samsung SSD which IFIXIT sell's MacBook Air 11" (2013-2015) 13" (2013-2017) MacBook Pro Retina 13" and 15" (2015) SSD or going with a third party like:

Hi! Thanks for reply! I was managing content on Time Capsule, not very successfully I guess. I need a MB Pro. I just cannot figure out why the SSD won’t mount. When I was able to get into recovery system the logs indicated other issues I will not go into without details. I was hoping target disk mode would let me erase.

No deal.

I will reseat the existing SSD and see.

Weird.

Cheers!
