Why can't I take video on the Canon PowerShot SX700 HS anymore?

My Canon PowerShot SX700 HS was working perfectly fine, but suddenly, in between filming short videos (30 sec - 4 min) on my camera (about 2 years old), it displayed a 0" written in orange font at the top right after I hit the red button to stop recording.

It was as if I was out of recording space, but I knew that wasn't the issue since I had JUST cleared the memory card so that all 64 GB was available (later double checked to confirm, and I was correct.) I even tried a different memory card with space, same problem.

The camera can still take photos and store those, but won't allow me to even record videos, let alone save them.

At the time it changed, I was indoors, full AC, so unlikely it overheated. I hardly even moved the camera, didn't mess with any settings... NO idea what could've happened. If this really is a logic board issue, then why can the camera take normal photos? Please help!

I can’t format the card because the format option is not highlighted in the camera. I can not click on it. So I continue to get memory card error. Any advice?

@Mels Antique Jewelry

Have you tried a different SD card, you didn't say?

da

Yes, I tried a different card also. I was taking pictures and then took the card out to load the pics to my laptop and when I put it back in, the memory card error was there and no option to format it in the camera without an active 'formate' function. I called cannon but they don't give any support for this Powershot SX700 HS . I ended up buying another camera from Canon, but it is on back order for an undetermined amount of time.

Did you format the memory card? Did you format it in camera? Make sure you always format any media card for a camera within the camera. A lot of cameras (panasonic, nikon, samsung....) don't record files correctly to the SD card unless the SD cards are formatted within the camera.

Make sure you backup any information you have on the SD card before you format it.

Good luck!

@salvagedcircuit Sorry for late reply, had to figure out how the heck to reformat it. Didn't realize I could format outside of computer and directly on camera. But thank you SO much Anthony, it totally worked! :D YAY!!

No problem! I'm glad it worked.

Nice one. Had the same problem. Deleted some videos on the card on the computer and couldn't get video to work. Formatting it in the camera instantly solved the problem.

@Mels Antique Jewelry

Have you tried formatting the card in your computer and check if the camera can take and store pictures, videos etc.? Try FAT16 or FAT32 format.

Also try to reset the camera] (see p.152 Reset All) and check if that resolves the problem

I couldn’t figure out how to format it using my laptop, but after about 15 times of taking the two chips in and out, the ‘format’ link in the camera was usable, so I formatted the one chip. The other chip still can’t be formatted in the camera. Waiting for a friend to come over this week to figure out how to format it on my laptop. Thanks for you input!
