paulagarey, The belt may have fell off or may have broke, engagement lever may be loose or tensioner pulley may have fallen off/loose, gear damage in gear box, wheel gear teeth or drive gear damaged/worn, loose/bad input shaft, cable stretched/broke/disengaged. Some of these mower's carried a 4 year warranty I believe, perhaps see if yours is still warrantied and have repaired under warranty if it is. See links below for checking/diagnosing self propelled mowers. Good luck. I hope this helped you out, if so let me know by pressing the helpful button.

The most likely problem is a broken drive belt. Depending on your model, this may be either on top of the deck or underneath. If that's not the problem, it could be broken drive shafts or stripped gears in the transmission. You'll have to do a bit more troubleshooting...

Mine was as simple as rolling the lawnmower on its side (air filter side always faces up), slightly pulling the drive belt protective cowling away from the blade shaft, and pulling the belt back over the groove on the blade shaft. It’ll still feel loose, but go ahead and give it a try. Whatever you do, locate your drive belt first. One end in the motor, the other around the blade shaft. Blade shaft.
