I have windows 10 and the printer is not working on my lab top ????

this printer is a piece of crap. Mine never worked right from the start.

Always aligning or something that takes forever, Won't stay connected to my wireless internet yet all the other printers I have in the house work just fine.

I agree with you Cullen McCloskey . My Officejet 6500 printer never worked right from day 1 when I took it out of the box and it was brand new. It's a total waste of money and very frustrating.

I agree the HP 6830 is a big piece of junk. I can't take out the printhead to clear manually. This is Planned Obsolescence by Hewlett Packard. I am so over their printers. Off to Best Buy I go for a new Epson Printer.

had this same problem (printhead) in january 2016. hp customer support was very accommodating, replacing printer with no problem. unfortunately refurbished printer received in january had same problem in march. again hp was very accommodating. my complaint is the inconvenience of having to wait for a replacement printer (usually a week to 10 days), then having to bundle up the old printer and get it to fedex for return. all this time without a working printer. my plea to hp: fix the hp6830 series or replace it with one that actually works!

I have very similar problem, Office Jet Pro 276DW MFP, not cheap, tried all the solutions recommended by HP, then returned to my local supplier who again tried all the recommended remedies. Supplier returned to HP agent (here in South Africa) Agent replied that printer was returned 1 week over warranty and hence would not accept responsibility. Totally !#^&@@ off by HP's reaction to problem. Have emailed them via there contact portal on their website & followed up twice with no reply. Have been a loyal HP support for over 10yrs. My local agent has told me that he has heard of a number of similar recent issues with HP's printers and HP has not been supportive. Is this a manufacturing fault HP are not willing to admit to or what?

I'm returning mine back to Costco along with the ink I had bought for it. The HP printer I had before this died the same way: Print-head failure. I believe the print-head problems are related to another issue people have with HP printers. And that would be the wasted ink by the printer when you are not even printing.

Every once in a while you hear the machine just going to town all by itself. Those sounds are from the printer shooting ink through the print-head to keep it clean. (WHAT?!?!?!?!?!?!?) Not only does this make the ink cartridges run out prematurely, it also eventually damages the print-head. "How does it damage it?" you might ask. Well, open up the cover and light the inside bottom with a flashlight. You will probably see splattered and pools of ink. That probably has something to do with what became of your print-head.

So why would I go through all the effort and wait to get another, possibly refurbished printer, mailed to me that will end up doing the same thing. And this time no longer having the option to return it for my money back. HP has to really find a better way to keep their print-heads running other than continually running ink through it.

Please everybody, google HP Printhead lawsuit and sign up for the class action lawsuit that is going on involving problems with the printhead. I did and got a call the next day to take my info. HP has known they were selling inferior products for some time now and did NOTHING about it. The firms name Is Morgan and Morgan. Just google HP printer lawsuit, you'll find them.

Hi Helen,

Hope the kittens didn't get in to too much trouble :) I'd advise giving HP Support a call, as you'll require a replacement printer (the printhead in this model is non-removable). Are you based in the US? If so, check out the link below..

The inkjets print heads get so coagulated that ink won't pass through the fine ink jets within the print head. Using the on board cleaning solution seldom fixes this issue, once it gets that bad. In most cases the print head can be soaked in a solution of "ink be gone" and brought back to life. Most of the cases we see at our shop are black ink related, but sometimes the colors. If we cant fix the issue we recycle the machine at no cost to the customer, in most cases.

Update (10/05/2016)

This particular Office jet does'nt have a removable print head, so you have to remove the top cover to get access to the print head. Using a lint free cloth or durable fabric dampen cloth with "windex", fold cloth to be able to slide cloth underneath the print head. Note: you will probably have to unplug the printer when the print head is close to the center, so you can slide print head over this saturated cloth. Let the cloth sit for a couple hours, remove, repeat for a couple minutes removing the final buildup on the print head. Now put the printer back together and run the cleaning test to see if the printer aligns properly.

Good Luck.. George

Hi I don't have an answer. I'm also getting a 'print-head error' but the main problem with this printer, is that the wireless connectivity is incredibly sporadic. It sometimes works just after I turn on my laptop, and switch on the printer. If I don't use the printer right away, it will almost never work.

Strange, that the problem has become worse the longer I've had the printer.

I'd mad at myself for having recently purchased extra boxes of ink. Ink for a printer that doesn't work, and which I will probably throw in the garbage. Will presumably throw out $100 worth of ink at the same time.

Going on HP's web-site, they of course do not acknowledge that the connectivity is crap. I guess I also would not admit it, if I was HP. I can't be bothered sending it back for a replacement. My time is worth more than the price of the lousy (literally) printer. Hence, the trip to the garbage bin.

What and where is the print head?

This is a common issue with this model of printer, the print head error issue. Before you start doing anything repair wise to your printer, or taking anything apart, I would contact HP customer service/tech support. I had the same printer and when I contact HP, they turned around and replaced it without hesitation. Free of charge. All I had to do was put my old printer into the box that the new refurbished one was sent in and stick the return label on it and send it back. Didn’t cost me a thing. HP has amazing customer service, this is why I have been using them for so many years. I hope you have gotten this issue fixed. Good luck. :)

I wish I had read all of these complaints before I bought my Officejet Pro 6830 in 2015. It worked well for about six months before I left the country for a year. When I returned in late 2017 it worked ok for a month or so before I began receiveing the "Problem with printhead" notifications. It became clear that the machine was never going to work again and that all HP was going to do was to offer to sell me a refurbished priniter of the same kind which would probably break down with the same problem in a few months. This is the third HP Printer I have owned in the past 5 years but I am finally awake now and will move away from HP's (which I have always bought in the past) and start looking at other brands as it is clear that HP's are not the reliable machines they used to be nor is HP Customer Service as good as it used to be.
