Definitely use the click wheel button replacement guide. When you get the click wheel off of the board it sits on, you'll see some tiny circular rubber bumpers, one on each button. You'll find that the rubber bumper that holds the center button "up" has slid off to the side. Just pull it off, use some good glue to stick it back right to the center where its supposed to go. Let the glue dry, then just reassemble by following the guide in reverse. Should be good to go.

Had the same problem with a stuck button and this suggestion worked

So thanks bcrismon, my iPod is up and running again!

Brilliant! Very fiddly but very doable.

Repositioned the little black pad on the centre button and my iPod is good as new. Saved me £250 buying a new one. Why Apple abandoned the classic wheel system is beyond me.

Thanks for the help

use the click wheel button guide

to disassemble the ipod and clean it carefully - then reassemble it again.

if you have to use fluids - use only isopropyl alcohol with more than 90%

remove the dirt/sticky stuff from the click wheel area and the ipod should work again after you resassembled it - but if you clean it with alcohol - let it dry before you reassemble it
