Introduzione
The Quasar MQ7774XW microwave was introduced in 1984. This replacement repair guide shows the necessary steps that must be taken if sparking occurs on the inside of the microwave.

Placing your hands on either side of the case, slide the case back gently until you feel it completely separate from the microwave frame.
-
Lift the case upward slowly until the case is free of the microwave.

First check to see if the interior of the microwave is dirty. Food or tin foil could be the reason that the microwave is sparking.
-
If the interior of the microwave is dirty, clean it. A spotless interior is recommended. The interior should look like the example in the picture.
-
-
-
If the microwave continues to spark after the interior has been cleaned, that could indicate that the diode may be broken. The diode is what attaches the capacitor to the back of the microwave.
-
A multimeter can be used to measure the resistance of the diode. The multimeter must be on the resistance setting or the diode check setting. If the diode reads zero in both directions, then it is broken.

Sparking inside of the microwave may also be the result of a broken or misaligned magnetron. If this is the case, it is recommended to take the microwave to a qualified professional or completely discarding the unit and purchasing a new one.
The diagnosis for a sparking Microwave, can never be a faulty HV Diode. If the diode was faulty there not be enough power to feed the magnetron.
Sparking inside a microwave is normally by 1 of 3 reasons: 1. metal objects inside the cavity when it is switched on and power injected into the cavity can not be sufficiently absorbed by the load (Food), 2. this could be caused by metal objects inside the cavity, which reflect the injected power back to the magnetron. or 3. it can be caused by a dirty or contaminated waveguide cover. If this is not checked urgently, the antenna of the magnetron can be damaged and may even implode, and this could be very, very violent, possibly causing building damage.
A mis-aligned magnetron will not cause sparking. It will cause leakages of very high frequency microwaves, which can cause gangrene and possible loss of limbs. This is dangerous.
To test your HV Diode, you can not use your multimeter on the resistance setting on "diode test"mode, It will not work. You need to have a multimeter that has a resistance setting for 200M ohm or higher. Measuring one way will give a zero, or very low ohms reading. Reversing the leads will give a higher ohms reading.
Just a side note: there is usually a note on the microwave stating that it should only be serviced by a qualified person. It is there for a reason as there are voltages up to 2500V floating around there. I will seriously hurt you, or even possibly kill you. Ever felt a capacitor discharge at that voltage? I promise you it is something you will never forget. I would also recommend that you get serious about posting these tips before you have consulted with a qualified person. I just felt I had to post this before someone gets hurt!!

Is the magnetron the failing component if you have this microwave or perhaps a 1983-1985 model quasar brand and the microwave doesn’t turn on after hitting “start”, a timer goes but no microwave heating is engaged?
