Background
AKG Acoustics is an acoustic engineering company focusing on microphones, wireless audio solutions and headphones, founded in 1947, Austria. AKG got acquired by Harman in 1994 and remained as Harman's subsidiary. Harman got in turn acquired by Samsung Electronics in 2017.
AKG initially manufactured technical equipment, such as loudspeakers, projectors and light meters, and later on carbon microphones and headsets. In 1953 AKG released the D12 cardiod dynamic microphone, which became their first international success and became popular with bass drums due to its ability to handle low frequencies.
By 1959 AKG introduced the K50, which were the world's first on-ear open-back headphones. The AKG K1000, released in 1989, were known for their iconic fully open design and sound stage. The AKG K240, released in 1975, is one of AKG's more iconic semi-open headphones, and widely used for monitoring and playback.
