ilo 1Gb Mp3 Player Troubleshooting

One of the most frustrating feeling when dealing with any electronic is that moment you press the power button and it doesn't turn on. In this short troubleshooting guide we will explore the possible problems that you could encounter with your ilo device.

A common solution could be as simple as replacing the battery. The ilo 1Gb model is powered by a single AAA battery.

I checked my battery and its good but the power button doesn't seem to do anything!

If the battery is not the issue then the next problem to consider would be an issue with the Power Button. The Power Button is the small grayish button located at the top most left of the device. Make sure that none of the edges of the button are caught under the edge of the button socket.

If the button seems to be working from the outside then you may have to look deeper. This requires disassembling the device to take a look at the on-board power button.

If on board button is loose or broken off they will likely require soldering or a new mother board. If the button still works but isn't sitting properly on the board then a temporary fix of hot gluing the button back in position might be enough to provide extended device functionality.

If your ilo device isn’t responding to your interactions, even after replacing the battery, the second step is to check that your hold switch is turned to the unlocked position. The hold switch is unlocked when the bottom most gray button on the side of the device is in the upper position. If that is the case and your device still isn't responding one way to determine that there isn't an internal issue with the hold switch is to hold the power button down for 2 seconds. If it is locked, you will get a message saying so. If you are getting this message and the hold switch on your device is in the unlocked position you will most likely have to open your device and check that the on board hold switch is being correctly manipulated by the external switch. If one side of the cradle on the external switch (the gray button) for the on board switch (the switch on the mother board) is broken it is likely you will not be able to unlock or lock your device without opening it. It will be necessary to replace the external switch if you wish to return its functionality.

"I have power but the screen stays black!"

If the Battery is good and the Power button checks out then the last place to check is the LED display screen located on the front of the device. The main reason that this has been placed as a power issue is because for the most part if the screen doesn't turn on you may have no external indicator that the device has power. While in fact the device is on and running, you just may not be able to tell from looking at it. The biggest problem that arises from a screen malfunction is the question of what to do about it. The easiest option is to simply scrap this device and buy a replacement, which will probably be of a newer model. But for those of you that have a deep running relationship with your device there are ways to replace the screen.

NOTE: to fix this we will require the use of a soldering tool and solder as well as the possibility of acquiring a replacement screen. Also, this option may end up costing you more in money and time than just buying a new device and is NOT guaranteed to fix the issue.

"Well i got it on but now i can't hear anything!"

The device is turning on and running but when you pop in your headphones you don't hear anything.

The Volume button is located just below the Power button on the top left side of the device. The Volume button is a rocking button with both a Volume Up portion and a Volume Down portion. Each portion of the rocker has a dedicated internal button on the mother board.

First, if the external rocker shows signs of damage and isn't functioning properly you may need to replace it. This does pose some issues because finding replacement part for this device is hard. If you can find a replacement volume rocker the act of replacing the button itself is rather simple.

Note: that this does involve taking the Device apart so some tools will be required.

If the button appears to have no external damage; ie. cracked, chipped or missing, you may have to delve deeper into the device. It may be that the internal button on the board is broken. Sometimes this can be identified by volume rocker getting caught inside the button socket. If this seems to be an issue then you will need to take the device apart to get to the on board volume button.

If on board buttons are loose or broken off they will likely require soldering or a new mother board. If the button still works but isn't sitting properly on the board then a temporary fix of hot gluing the button back in position might be enough to provide extended device functionality.

Another common issue could be that the Headphones or speakers that you are trying to use with this device are defective. Try your device with another set of headphones or speakers just to make sure that the problem is with the device itself.

If your headphones/speakers function properly then the cause of the audio problem could be an issue with the audio-out jack. Unfortunately, the audio-out jack is soldered to the mother board.

The easiest option is to simply scrap this device and buy a replacement, which will probably be of a newer model. For those of you that have a deep running relationship with your device there are ways to replace the audio jack that we do not cover.

NOTE: to fix this we will require the use of a soldering tool and solder as well as the possibility of acquiring a replacement screen. Also, this option may end up costing you more in money and time than just buying a new device and is NOT guaranteed to fix the issue.

The first issues to remedy here is to ensure that the cable you are using is connected properly. Usually a device of this nature will come with the proper cable to connect to a computer. It is recommended you use that cable, but if it has been lost there are other devices that use a similar cable if you need one. Insure that there is no damage to the input ports and the connection of both ends of the cable fit properly into their respective input ports. Also, check to make sure that there is no damage done to the cable.
