If your Sony PRS-505 is not charging, and there are no indicators that it is receiving power, despite the charger being plugged in, follow this page for possible solutions.
End Of Battery's Lifespan
As it’s an older model (circa 2008), the PRS-505's internal battery is likely at the end of its life. A deeply discharged battery may prevent USB charging recognition.
- If USB charging is unsuccessful, connect an AC adapter to the dedicated barrel plug port. A compatible Sony PSP charger can also be used to revive a deeply discharged battery.
- To recover from a completely depleted state, leave it connected to the charger for several hours (4+ hours).
Unsuitable Charing Method Or Connection Issues
Early PRS-505 models charge slowly via PC USB, not wall chargers. Charging stops, and battery drains, if the PC sleeps.
- To avoid interrupting the charging process when using a USB connection, disable your PC's sleep and hibernation settings.
- To charge the device, use only the provided cable. Check the cable and USB port for a secure connection.
Damage From Water Or Moisture
Sudden temperature shifts (e.g., cold to warm room) can cause internal condensation, temporarily preventing device startup or charging.
- Turn the device off (or leave it as is) and let it sit in a dry, room-temperature location for several hours (5+), or even overnight, to ensure it's completely dry.
