Sony DSC-RX100MA Model IV Troubleshooting
Released in 2015, RX100 IV model
SD Memory Card Is Locked
I can't figure out how to unlock the memory card.
Slide up the Lock Tab
To unlock your SD memory card, locate the lock tab on the left side of the card. If the tab is in the down position, slide it up to unlock it. This will allow the camera to save pictures to your SD card.
Use Tweezers or Needlenose Pliers
If the SD memory card is jammed, we recommend using tweezers or needlenose pliers to lightly pull on the end of the SD card where there are no visible electronics. Afterwards, be sure to check the SD card to see if there is any visible cracks or damage. If there is, you will need to buy a replacement SD card.
The Pictures Are Too White Or Overexposed
Why are my pictures so bright and washed out?
Turn off the flash setting
Check to see if the flash setting is on or off. If it is on, take the same picture without flash and see if the problem still occurs.
Lower Exposure
If the problem persists, try lowering the exposure compensation.
Are you in Manual (M) mode?
If you are in the Manual (M) mode, you have some more options:
- Lower the ISO setting
- Increase shutter speed
- Retract to find a higher f-stop number
The Power Will Not Turn On
Why won't my camera turn on when I press the power button?
Low Batteries
The batteries may be low. Try charging the battery by connecting the given charger to a computer via USB.
Broken Charging Cable
If charging the camera does not work, the charging cable may be defective. If this is so, you will either need to use another micro usb charging cable from another device or order one online.
Defective Power Button
If the previous two do not fix the problem, there may be a defect with the power button. In order to replace it, follow our screen replacement guide to either repair or replace the power button.
The Battery Will Not Charge
I cannot charge the battery when connecting to a computer by USB cable
Broken Charging Cable
If charging the camera does not work, the charging cable may be defective. If this is so, you will either need to use another micro usb charging cable from another device or order one online.
Computer Problem
Make sure the computer is on when charging. Computers need to be turned on in order to send power through the USB ports. If this does not work, try changing charging ports on the computer or change computers.
SD Memory Card Failed/Does Not Have Clear Photos
The SD memory card I bought is not working well with the camera
Incompatible SD memory card
Your memory card may be incompatible or not be strong enough to use with the camera. We recommend purchasing an SDXC 64-gigabyte memory card.
Camera Overheats While Filming
The Camera is overheating whenever I try to film for long durations, especially in 4K
Dysfunctional Thermal Pad
The camera may have a problem with its internal heat regulation. In order to fix this, you may need to contact Sony support or buy a new camera. Visit our additional resources tab on the bottom of the device page.

My camera got wet during a rain storm and now when I try to start it the lens comes out and the screen lights up to a uniform blue, then it shuts off again
