In most cases, faulty buttons can be the cause of dust and debris getting underneath the buttons. The best way to solve this would be to use compressed air to blow into the edge of the button.

• CAUTION!: While used as a common solution, blowing directly onto the buttons with your mouth can result in moisture getting under the buttons and will damage the electronics.

Sticky food substances can get under the 'directional pad' and 'face buttons' and build up over time if you snack frequently while gaming. This can be solved very easily by dabbing a cotton swab or rag with cleaning alcohol and gently wiping around the edges of the buttons. In extreme cases, you may be required to remove the top half of the plastic shell around the controller to clean around the bottom edges of the buttons.
