Poor Battery Life
The tablet loses charge more quickly than expected.
High Power Consumption
Many applications and settings may drain battery life quickly. Make sure to close unused applications and check for any that may run in the background or require higher than expected power consumption. Some applications offer different performance levels where lower performance can reduce energy usage. Restarting the device may help clear application usage levels. Lowering brightness settings and disabling battery monitoring services may also improve battery life.
Extreme Temperatures
Extreme temperatures may affect the ability for batteries and other parts to function properly. Check the area around the tablet, and attempt to operate and store it away from extreme heat or cold.
High Power Usage by Other Hardware
Connecting the tablet to another device may not always charge the tablet. In addition, some devices could rely on the tablet's battery for energy. Compare the battery life when using it with or without the other devices.
Faulty Battery
A faulty battery can limit its ability to properly hold a charge, or may report an incorrect amount of energy. Consider replacing it using the battery replacement guide.
Device Fails to Charge
The tablet does not gain energy while charging.
Power Consumption Higher Than Charge Rate
While charging, the tablet may be using energy faster than it can charge. Try limiting usage of the device when charging it. Check to make sure the other charging parts are properly connected so that it may charge at the correct rate.
Bad Power Socket
The tablet may not charge if connected to a bad power socket, even if the adapter, cable, port and other parts are functioning. Try to charge from another socket that appears to work with other adapters and devices.
Bad Charging Source
The tablet can charge when connected to some other devices, but not all of them. Check to make sure the other device is compatible to charge the tablet. Otherwise, charge with another device, or charge with the adapter and a power socket.
Faulty Adapter
The tablet may not charge if the adapter does not work. Try using another adapter, or replace the adapter with a new one.
Faulty USB Connection Cable
A faulty USB connection cable can prevent the device from charging. Check the cable for any defects such as dirty or broken ends, or bent cords. Try adjusting the cable. Consider using another cable or replacing it with a new one.
Dirty USB Charging Port
The tablet may not charge if the charging port is dirty. Check the port for dust or other contaminants. Clean the port by first turning off the device, then softly wipe it or use an air spray.
Broken USB Charging Port
The tablet may not charge because of a broken charging port. Consider replacing the port using the guide.
Faulty Battery
The tablet may not charge due to a faulty battery. Consider replacing the battery using the guide.
Failure to Connect to a Computer
Either the tablet or the computer fails to detect a connection between the devices.
Computer Fails to Detect the Connection
Some computers may not be able to connect with the device. Check to make sure the computer is accepting device connections. Otherwise, try another port on the same computer, or connect it to other computers.
Faulty USB Connection Cable
A faulty USB connection cable can prevent a device from connecting to the computer. Check the cable for any defects such as dirty or broken ends, or bent cords. Try adjusting the cable. Consider using another cable or replacing it with a new one.
Dirty USB Port
The tablet may not connect if the USB port is dirty. Check the port for dust or other contaminants. Clean the port by first turning off the device, then softly wipe it or use an air spray.
Broken USB Port
The tablet may not connect with a broken USB port. Consider replacing the port using the guide.
Malfunctioning Screen
The tablet screen does not display properly.
Unusual Screen Settings
The screen may not display properly due to settings within the device software. For example, it may appear dim or discolored due to low brightness levels. Navigate to the brightness settings when using the device, and increase the screen brightness. Check the display settings for any additional adjustments such as saturation, or if any applications may be affecting it. Try restoring to the default settings, or restart the device.
Dirty Screen Exterior
The screen may appear blurry or hard to see due to dust, dirt or other mild contaminants on top of the screen. Clear away dust with a microfiber cloth or appropriate commercial pre-moistened wipes for LCD screens. Wipe gently, as too much pressure may crush the screen and cause other issues such as cracking or clouding.
Extreme Temperatures
Extreme temperatures may affect the ability for the LCD screen to display properly. In particular, extreme heat may reduce its brightness. Check the area around the tablet, and attempt to operate and store it away from extreme heat or cold.
Cracked Screen
The screen itself may break from cracking. Consider replacing it using the guide.
Poor Screen Attachment
The screen may not be properly connected to other hardware parts. For example, it may not be properly connected to the motherboard, or to the frame. Consider reconnecting the screen by referring to the screen replacement guide.
Screen Burn-in
The screen may have a burn-in, or a "ghost" of the image that always displays even when the screen should change. This occurs if the screen displays the image for too long or for too often. Certain applications may help reduce or revert the burn-in. Otherwise, consider replacing the screen using the guide.
Faulty Display Hardware
The screen may fail to display due to faults in the other hardware parts. For example, even if connected properly, the motherboard may calculate the display improperly. Consider adjusting the connections or replacing the motherboard using the guide.
Defective Pixels
The screen may have pixels that appear black, or pixels that appear to only display certain colors. "Dead pixels" cause the black ones because they do not display at all. "Stuck pixels" are ones that only display certain colors due to broken sub-pixels. Try gently massaging the area with the defective pixels. Certain applications may help restore the pixels. Otherwise, consider replacing the screen using the guide.
Clouding
The screen may have "clouding" where areas of the screen appear inappropriately bright. Use a microfiber cloth to gently rub the affected areas with circular motions. Clouding occurs due to the crushing of liquid crystals in the LCD, and may occur permanently. Excess pressure can further the damage. Consider replacing the screen using the guide.
Backlight Bleeding
The screen may have "backlight bleeding" where areas of the screen appear inappropriately bright due to excessive backlighting. Reducing screen brightness can help lower the visual effect. Otherwise, consider replacing the screen using the guide.
Malfunctioning Speakers
The tablet speakers do not play sound correctly.
Dirty Speakers
The speakers may sound muffled or quiet because they are dirty. Check for dust, dirt, lint, and other contaminants that may obstruct the speakers. Clean the speakers by first turning off the device, then softly wipe it or use an air spray.
Poor Speaker Attachment
The speakers may play sound incorrectly, intermittently or not at all due to poor attachment to other parts. For example, it may not be properly connected to the motherboard. Consider reattaching the speakers by referring to the speaker replacement guide.
Broken Speakers
The speakers may not play correctly if they are broken, such as by physical damage. Consider replacing the speakers using the guide.
