Touch Screen Not Responding

3.5 inch OLED touch screen is either slow to respond or completely frozen and does not react to user input

Software Malfunction

If the touch screen is unresponsive coming out of standby mode or slow to respond during normal operation there could be a software malfunction preventing the touchscreen from operating in a normal fashion. Sometimes a simple reset can be all that is needed to resolve these issues. Turn the camera off and then turn it back on again. Press the menu button, tap set up, and then hit reset all to restore the camera back to default values.

Outdated Firmware

Make sure you have the newest firmware installed for you camera. You can check the firmware version by pressing the menu button, tapping set up, and then hitting firmware version, your firmware version will then be displayed on screen. If you find that your firmware version is indeed outdated, visit Nikon's website to download the newest version for your operating system.

Damaged Touch Screen

If you have tried everything above and your touch screen is still unresponsive, there may be something wrong with the hardware. Inspect your touch screen and surrounding areas for any sign of mechanical damage. A complete replacement will be needed for a damaged OLED touch screen. You will need the Nikon Coolpix S800c Touch Screen Replacement Guide to accomplish this task.

Selector Buttons Not Working

The Menu, Home, and Back buttons next to the touch screen do not function correctly when pressed.

Sticky Buttons Due to Foreign Substance

If the buttons cannot be pressed or seem stuck, there could be a foreign substance impeding the operation of the buttons. Find a Q-tip and isopropyl alcohol. Turn the camera off and face the screen downwards to keep the alcohol from leaking into the camera during application. Dip the Q-tip in isopropyl alcohol and rub both around and in-between the buttons. Dry the area with the other end of the Q-tip. Turn the camera on again and try to operate the selector buttons.

Damaged Selector Buttons

If you have tried everything above and the selector buttons are still in-operational, there could be a hardware problem with your selector button assembly. Use the the Nikon Coolpix S800c Selector Button Replacement Guide to switch out your selector buttons.

Camera Not Saving Pictures

Whenever a picture is taken, they are not saved to the camera and you are unable to view them.

Missing SD Card

Make sure you have inserted an SD Card into the Camera. On the bottom of the camera, there is a panel that houses the battery and the SD card. Check to see that there is an SD Card present in the slot above the battery.

Not Enough Space on SD Card

With the SD Card inserted, check the Memory Page on the Camera Menu to ensure there is enough unused space to take pictures. If there is not enough space, you can delete unwanted photos or insert a new SD Card.

Broken SD Card

Make sure that the SD Card you are using works. You can test by inserting it in another device that accepts SD Cards like a Computer or another camera. If inserted in a computer, test to see if you can access the files on the SD Card. If inserted in a different camera, test to see if you can take pictures and view the pictures on the camera. If you are unable to do any of the above, a replacement SD Card might be needed.

Defective SD Card Reader

If you know the SD Card you are using works, the problem might lie in the SD Card Reader of the Nikon Coolpix s800c.

Look into the SD Card slot to see if there is any debris located inside. Use a compressed air duster or something similar to blow any dust or foreign objects in the SD Card slot out. The debris might be messing up the connection between the SD Card and the reader of the camera.

If you think there are any physical defects in the SD Card Slot, try removing the back panel of the camera and observe the SD Card Slot. Make sure all connections within the Camera are connected and secure. If everything looks normal but you still cannot view pictures, a new camera might be needed.

Camera Not Powering On

The camera will not turn on, regardless of how many times the power button has been pressed.

Sticky Power Button

If the power button can not be pressed down all the way, or seems to be sticky, clean it. All that’s needed is a Q-tip and isopropyl alcohol. Turn the camera upside down to keep the alcohol from leaking into the camera. Dip the Q-tip in isopropyl alcohol and dab around the button. Dry with the other end of the Q-tip and try.

Defective Battery

Set up the camera up with the adapter as if you were about to charge the camera. Attempt to turn on the camera. If the batter is defective, the camera will turn on when plugged into the wall, but not when unplugged. If the battery is defective, replace the battery using this Battery Replacement Guide.
