Camera does not turn on

Battery is exhausted

Remove the battery from the camera and insert it into the supplied charging dock. Installing Nikon Coolpix 7900 Battery

Battery is defective

The Nikon Coolpix 7900 camera uses an EN-EL5 Lithium Ion Battery Pack. Replace the battery with the same battery type.

Monitor is blank

Battery is defective

Battery is exhausted

Remove the battery from the camera and insert it into the supplied charging dock.

Camera is off

Make sure the battery is charged and is inserted. Hold down the power button until a beep sounds and the display turns on.

Camera is connected to computer/TV via USB or audio/video cable

If the camera is connected to a computer via USB cable or a TV via audio/video cable, disconnect in order to view the display.

LCD screen is broken

If the LCD screen appears broken or does not turn on then the display may need to be replaced. Refer to our LCD disassembly guide in order to remove the LCD screen. Installing Nikon Coolpix 7900 LCD Screen

Lens does not zoom

Lens is jammed

If the lens appears to be jammed then there may be debris stuck inside the lens assembly. Refer to our Lens Case disassembly guide in order to remove debris. Installing Nikon Coolpix 7900 Front Cover

Zoom buttons are broken

If the zoom buttons appear to be broken or defective, they may need to be replaced.

Lens is broken

If the lens is cracked or otherwise broken, the lens may need to be replaced.

Flash does not work properly

Flash is turned off/on

Access the settings tab on the camera display and verify that the flash is turned on or off. Make sure to turn off the auto flash function for complete control over the flash. In addition, make sure the camera is not in video capture mode.

Flash bulb is depleted

The flash bulb may be dead and consequently would need to be replaced.

Charge capacitor is damaged

If the charge capacitor is damaged. The bulb will not be able to hold a charge. The capacitor will need to be replaced in this case. Installing Nikon Coolpix 7900 Front Cover

Pictures do not save

Memory card is not inserted

Verify that the memory card is in the camera.

Memory card is defective

If the memory card is damaged, it will need to be replaced. This camera uses a generic SD card. Installing Nikon Coolpix 7900 Memory Card

Camera/card memory is full

If the memory card is full, transfer pictures to an external storage device.
