Keys Are Stuck

The keys either will not press down or the computer is not responding to the typing.

Faulty Keys

If a key is stuck when you try to push it down, there is a good chance that debris has gotten underneath it. To replace one faulty key or whole keyboard, follow these instructions.

Laptop Gets Hot to the Touch

The bottom of your laptop feels as if it is overheating when using it and it malfunctions or shuts off.

Change Laptop Surface

If your computer is overheating your first step would be to try using it on a hard, cool surface. If you are keeping it on an uneven surface (like your lap), the airflow is obstructed. You can also purchase a lap desk with ventilation to help with cooling, as body heat could contribute to the problem.

Malfunctioning Fan

Dust build-up on the fan in the laptop can result in the laptop not being able to cool down properly. To fix this you will have to disassemble, clean the fan, or replace it.

Laptop Will Not Charge

The laptop will not react when power cord is connected to the power adaptor. This is a sign of a faulty battery.

Faulty Power Cord

If your computer will not charge, your first step is to confirm that the charging cord is working. You can do this by plugging it into a different outlet and verifying that the light is on. If the cord does not work, you may have to purchase a new cord. If this does not solve the problem, look below for what to do when your battery is defective.

Defective Battery

A laptop that will not charge is most likely due to a dead battery that needs to be replaced. This is how you can replace the battery.

No Screen Display

Computer sounds like it has turned on, but the screen is black.

Black Screen

If the computer screen is black, but you can hear that the computer has been turned on, the first step would be to check that your brightness is turned up. Press F5 key to turn it up. If this does not fix your problem, look below at what to do when you have a disabled display.

Disabled Display

If the laptop's power light is on and you can hear the computer booting up but the screen does not respond at all, your screen may be disabled. If this is the case, you will have to turn off your laptop if it is not already. Then, you will need to remove the RAM (random access memory) from underneath the computer. This will serve as a reset. Click here for further instructions on how to do this.
