Instant Pot Smart-60 Troubleshooting
This page will help you diagnose common problems.
The Instant Pot Fails to Turn On When Plugged in
The Instant Pot is connected to power but shows no signs of being on.
Bad power connection/No power
This model of Instant Pot has a power cord that is removable from both its socket on the pot as well as the wall outlet. Make sure the power cord plug is securely connected to both the wall outlet and the back of the instant pot. Additionally, check that the wall outlet has power being supplied from it.
Blown Fuse
The fuse is a little device that protects the instant pot circuitry if it receives too much current. If the fuse blows, the circuit is protected but the fuse needs to be replaced. Contact Instant Pot support if you believe a fuse might be blown.
The Lid Fails to Seal When Closed
The lid leaks steam or liquid when closed, or the timer begins before the float valve rises.
Pressure Release Valve Is Set to Vent
The pressure release has two settings: “venting” and “sealing.” Make sure the pressure release valve is set to “sealing” when trying to pressurize your Instant Pot.
There is not Enough Liquid in the Inner Pot
The Instant Pot builds pressure by creating steam from the liquid inside the inner pot. Add at least one cup of liquid (broth, water, etc.) to ensure proper steam build up and pressurization occurs. If you’re working with thicker liquid or paste, add extra water to thin the liquid before cooking.
The Seal Needs to be Replaced
The sealing ring on a pressure cooker gets compressed over time and regularly needs to be replaced.
Excessive Steam Leaks From Float Valve
Steam continues to leak from the float valve for an extended period of time.
The Float Valve and Anti-Block Shield are Dirty
If the float valve and anti-block shield are dirty, the Instant Pot can’t properly manage the build up of steam and pressure, and may end up leaking steam from the float valve. To check if these parts are dirty, open the Instant Pot lid and examine the underside. Clean with soap and water if necessary. A sponge can be used to clear most of the debris from the float valve, while a brush may be necessary to properly clean the anti-block shield.
Part of the Float Valve is Missing
The float valve requires its rubber seal to function properly. If this or another part of the valve is missing, it will not be able to function properly and needs to be replaced.
Phone Can’t Connect to Instant Pot
Unable to view or control the instant pot from the smartphone app
Bluetooth is not turned on
The Instant Pot requires a bluetooth 4.0 connection. Make sure to turn on bluetooth connection on your mobile device and on the instant pot as well. To turn on bluetooth connection on the instant pot, hold the “Adjust” button for 10 seconds and the Bluetooth icon on the display should light up.
App Unsupported on Operating System Version
The instant pot app is available on both iOS (Apple products) and android Operating Systems. The app will, however, will not work on any version of Operating System below iOS6 or Android 4.3. If you are running an unsupported Operating System version, you will need to go into your phone settings and update to a supported version.
Out of Connection Range
The Bluetooth connection range of the instant pot is around 30 to 45 feet. Make sure you are within this range of the instant pot and try to reconnect.
Instant Pot not coming to Pressure
Pressure is not building up when set to cook.
The Seal Needs to be Replaced
The sealing ring on a pressure cooker gets compressed over time and regularly needs to be replaced.
The Sensors are Stuck/Malfunctioning
A pressure sensor could be getting a false reading from an electrical fault. Unplug the Instant Pot for at least one minute to discharge the capacitors and then plug the Instant Pot back in and try again.
Damaged Electronic Base
A burnt-out electrical component, such as a resistor or transistor, will cause the entire electrical system of the Instant Pot to not work. The base of the pot can be removed to access the electrical components.
2 Commenti
While cooking asparagus, the pot preheated, then got stuck on the first bar of Cook. By the time I turned it off they were way overcooked. I am a novice. What went wrong?

Can iFixit replace the fuse? Is a blown fuse common for such appliances, or is this issue unique to this brand? Thank you. I have their Lux Mini, if that is relevant?
