Slow Response to Commands
Your Chromebook is struggling to keep up with your work, and every program or action takes a long time to process.
Corrupted apps
If your screen freezes, first turn off the computer and turn it back on again. If the issue persists, check your recently installed apps, and uninstall them, for one may be causing the screen freeze. If the screen continues to freeze, reset your Chromebook.
Old motherboard
The first step for slow performance is to check for any updates and install them if they are available. If your Chromebook continues to offer slow performance, it may need an upgrade to help it run faster. For better performance, you could replace your motherboard. Check out our guide here.
Screen Isn’t Working Properly
Your Chromebook turns on and appears to be running, but the computer does not display an image or has trouble completing a task and therefore freezes.
The internal screen is cracked
The screen of the HP Chromebook 14-ak041dx is the most fragile part of the computer which results in frequent malfunctions.
If you see a cracked pattern in your screen but there is no external crack the Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) is in need of replacement.
Screen won’t display
A black screen in a Chromebook can be caused by a few things. There are a few steps you want to complete to get down to the exact reason for the malfunction.
Close the lid without shutting the Chromebook down, and then plug in the AC adapter. You will see the green LED when the battery has charged completely. This is to rule out a dead computer versus a dark screened computer.
Restart the Chromebook. Press and hold the power key until the power light shuts off, and then press the Power key again to turn it back on.
If the display still appears blank, perform a system recovery.
System Recovery:
Insert the HP System Recovery Disc in your USB connected CD/DVD drive and restart your computer. Follow the directions that are displayed on your screen.
Chromebook Won’t Charge or Turn on
Your Chromebook won’t respond when it is powered on or plugged into a power source.
Device won’t charge but still has power
First, an Embedded Controller (EC) reset must be performed. To do this, press and hold the refresh and power buttons for 3 seconds.
If that doesn’t work, then verify if the AC adapter is actually charging. To do this, turn on your laptop while it is charging and press ctrl + alt + t keys to open crosh. Type battery_test1, hit enter, and check if the battery is charging.
If it still isn’t charging, check the discharge rate of the battery on the same screen. Depending on the result, you probably will have to replace the battery. Here is a step-by-step process for battery replacement.
Physical/liquid damage
Perform a visual inspection. If dents or scratches are visible, then there has been physical damage. If there is liquid or moisture visible, then there has been liquid damage. If either of these are the case, then taking it to the store to be fixed is the best option.
To try testing for liquid damage, try pressing and holding down the power button. It should turn on if it is above 1% when the power button is pressed.
If that doesn’t work, try charging the device for 10 minutes. If this still doesn’t work, then you should bring it into the store to be fixed or to get a new one.
Device is frozen
If the device is frozen, an Embedded Controller(EC) reset must be performed. To do this, press and hold the refresh and power buttons for 3 seconds.
If the device boots up, problem solved, If not, then it is time to take it to the store for a replacement or to be fixed.
Plugs/Flash Drives Won’t Fit into USB Port
You can’t plug phone chargers, Flash Drives, etc. into the USB port on your Chromebook.
Incorrect insertion
You may be attempting to plug in a device that uses a USB port but will not go in, try flipping it to the other side and inserting it. The problem may be that you’re trying to push it in upside down.
Damaged USB port
If you are trying to plug in a device such as a phone charger or Flash Drive that uses a USB and it is not going in, your USB port may be dented or damaged and in need of replacement. To learn how to replace your damaged USB port, you can follow our step-by-step guide here.
Apps/Video Games Won’t Play
HP Chromebook 14-ak041dx won’t allow the downloading or playing of apps or video games.
Unable to download apps
If you try to download an app and receive the error message “Your Device is Not Compatible with This Version” error message then the HP Chromebook 14-ak041dx is not compatible with the app you are trying to download.
This is usually due to the Chromebook not having a specific feature that the app requires to function. Example: A GPS
Greyed out Chromebook
When browsing the Google Play Store you can choose which device to install your apps on, if your Chromebook 14-ak041dx icon is greyed out then the app cannot be installed on your device.
Not enough storage
You may not be able to install games because there isn’t enough storage on your HP Chromebook 14-ak041dx. This Chromebook comes with 16 GB eMMC, to check how much storage you have used open the Files app and click the menu button in the upper-righthand corner. At the bottom of the drop-down you will be able to see how much storage is currently available on your Chromebook. Check to see how much storage your game needs to download, if there isn’t enough available storage on your Chromebook you will need to replace your RAM to give you more storage to download the game.
