Computer Will Not Power On

The laptop will not power and does not show any signs of turning on.

Faulty Battery

Test to make sure the power adapter is plugged into the laptop or into the wall outlet. If the computer turns on despite the power adapter being plugged in, then the battery is faulty or damaged.

Faulty Power Adapter

Remove the battery and try to turn on the computer with the power adapter attached, if there is no response then the power adapter/brick may be damaged or faulty.

Incorrect or Out-of-Date Drivers

Go to your manufacturer's website and locate the support page, there should be a list of downloadable drivers to install. The drivers for the display might need to be updated or reinstalled if the incorrect/out-of-date drivers are on the system.

Battery Not Holding a Charge

If the battery will not completely charge or maintain a charge during usage.

Faulty Connection to the Battery

Remove the battery and check the connections on the computer.

Battery is Corroded or Old

Check to see if the battery has built up corrosion on its connection points, or the year it was manufactured. Depending on the frequency of the battery being used, you may need to replace it, especially if the battery is over 2 years old.

Random Shutdowns

If you are experiencing your computer powering off without you pressing the power button or initiating shut down through the operating system's menu.

Faulty RAM

If your computer is crashing during normal operation, or you are getting memory errors, you may not have enough RAM. If you have bad RAM or would like to upgrade, [guide].

Hard Drive Errors

If you have not been shutting down your computer properly, by using the power button rather than through your operating system, it could corrupt your hard drive. You can fix this issue by using a windows recovery disk, or use this [guide] to replace the hard drive.

Keyboard or Keys Are Not Responsive

The keys on your keyboard won't respond or appear to be broken or missing.

If your keys or keyboard are not responding in its entirety, then the keyboard should be replaced with guide

Broken or Faulty Keys

If your keyboard isn't responding, it could likely be the keys themselves are broken or faulty. The keys may be broken underneath or not making contact with the switches.

Touchpad Not Working Causing Keys to Not Respond

If your touchpad isn’t working after working on your computer, the connection may have come loose or unplugged. It can easily be reattached by removing the above casing of the laptop and make sure the connection is secure. If the connection is secure and the touchpad is still not working, it could be a software issue. The device may have been disabled or the software corrupted. Check to make sure the touchpad is recognized and the drivers are up to date. If the touchpad still doesn’t work, it may need to be replaced.

Computer is Overheating

If your computer is getting warm or extremely hot during usage, the computer may be overheating due to lack of sufficient cooling.

Faulty or Broken Fans

Your laptop is cooled by a fan and heatsink. If your laptop is overheating or your fan is making a lot of noise, it is important to clean out or replace the fan to keep the machine from overheating and becoming damaged.

Sometimes simply cleaning out the dirt from the fan and heatsink with a can of pressurized air and a small brush (a paint brush works) is enough to fix the issue. Otherwise, replacing the fan is the next step. You can follow this simple guide to replace your fan.

Insufficient Airflow

In addition to your fan possibly being dirty or broken, the fan could be physically blocked. by the surface it sits on or something in front of the fan.''

If the computer is sitting on a towel or in your lap, the fans may not be pulling in the air making the computer overheat.
