Garmin Edge 530 Inaccurate Readings

If your Garmin Edge 530 cycling computer is giving inaccurate readings that don't match your elevation or known grade ratings on your ride, use this page to get your readings right so you can crush climbs with confidence.

If the Garmin Edge 530 is returning inaccurate elevation and grade readings while all other functions are operational, especially after exposure to water, the barometric altimeter may be wet. The barometric altimeter is housed on the back of the Garmin Edge 530 behind two small hole openings located above the serial number. To remove moisture from the barometric altimeter, take a hairdryer and gently apply heat to the small openings. The device can also be placed in rice to remove moisture from this area.

If The Garmin Edge 530 has not been exposed to moisture but is still returning inaccurate elevation and grade readings, the small openings may be blocked with dust and debris. To remove this, use compressed air to gently blow the dust and debris out from the openings.
