Garmin DriveSmart 50 LMTHD Screen is Freezing and Unresponsive
Garmin is unresponsive and won't turn on, even when plugged in.
Software/Firmware Error:
The screen may be unresponsive due to a software glitch or a firmware error, but the solution is to force a restart onto the device by holding the power button for 10-20 seconds until the device shuts down. You can wait a couple of seconds after the reboot, and attempt to power it back on. Frequently updating software can counteract the unresponsiveness of the Garmin screen.

Battery Issues:
Possible solutions and steps you can take are to confirm that the charger or cable isn’t causing the issue, if it powers on only when it is plugged in, it is most likely an internal battery issue. The internal battery degrades over time because lithium-ion batteries lose capacity and battery life over a period of time. [Link to battery removal if issue is still persistent]
Steps for easy battery fix:
- Hold power button for 10 second(s)
- Remove and reattach plug
Insufficient Power Source:
An unreliable power source can cause disruptions and freezes, so it is best to check if the device is plugged into the power outlet with the correct Garmin cable that is provided.
Motherboard Failure:
If you have tried all of the solutions above, the motherboard is most likely the reason why the screen is freezing.
- Replace the Motherboard.
