If your EasySMX X15 controller buttons activate without being pressed, causing unintended actions during game play, follow these troubleshooting steps:
Buttons are Dirty
- Inspect the surface of the controller around the buttons. Look for visible debris such as dust, crumbs, or dirt.
- Use a small brush, cotton swab, or compressed air to clean around the edges of the buttons.
- Press the buttons several times to check if the cleaning improved their responsiveness.
- If the buttons are still sticking, proceed to further cleaning.
- Deep Clean with Isopropyl Alcohol
- Power off and disconnect the controller.
- Dampen a cotton swab with isopropyl alcohol (90% or higher).
- Carefully clean the edges and gaps around the sticking buttons. The alcohol will help dissolve grime or sticky residue.
- Press the buttons repeatedly while cleaning to help work the alcohol into the button mechanism.
- Allow the controller to air dry for a few minutes and test the buttons.
Grime or Crumbs Got Into the Device
If surface cleaning doesn’t resolve the issue, you may need to open the controller for a deeper cleaning.
- Follow the EasySMX X15 Main Board Replacement Guide to safely disassemble the controller and access all of the buttons.
- Once the controller is open, remove the button assembly.
- Clean the internal parts around the buttons with a cotton swab dipped in isopropyl alcohol.
- Inspect the rubber membranes under the buttons for wear or damage. If damaged, these may need to be replaced.
- Clean the button faces and the contact pads on the controller board to ensure smooth movement.
- Reassemble the controller and test the buttons.
Liquid Damage
- If the controller has been exposed to liquid, there may be sticky residue inside causing the buttons to stick.
- Open the controller and carefully clean any dried or sticky residue with isopropyl alcohol.
- Ensure all areas are thoroughly dried before reassembling the controller.
- Once reassembled, test the buttons to see if the issue is resolved.
Buttons Are Faulty or Damaged
- If buttons still stick after cleaning, check that the buttons are properly aligned within their slots.
- Inspect the plastic housing and button caps for any warping or wear.
- If the rubber button pads (membranes) beneath the buttons are worn out, they may need to be replaced.
- Replace the D-pad buttons using this guide, or the A,B,X,Y Buttons using this guide, and test the buttons.
Preventive Maintenance
To avoid button sticking in the future, follow these simple tips:
-Regular Cleaning: Periodically clean your controller to prevent dust and dirt build-up around the buttons.
- Avoid Liquids: Keep food and drinks away from the controller to prevent accidental spills.
- Use Protective Covers: Consider using silicone covers or button protectors to minimize dirt and debris infiltration.
- Store Properly: Store your controller in a dry, dust-free environment when not in use.
