Dell Photo Printer 720 Troubleshooting

You can’t figure out why the printer is not turning on.

Sometimes we think too much into problems that we often overlook the simple solutions. Check to make sure you have turned on the printer by pushing the round silver power button on the top right of the printer. If this is not the solution, read on.

If your printer won't turn on, the power adapter may not be connected. Check to see if it is securely connected to the printer as well as plugged in to the wall outlet. Often times the cord may come lose and lose connection. Paper is getting stuck while printing.

If your paper is wrinkled or is torn, this will cause the printer to jam. Remove any paper that is not smooth and replace with new paper. If your paper is looking fresh and still have a jam, read on.

Having too many sheets of paper in the paper support can cause the printer to jam. Try removing the paper and replacing with about half the amount. If this does not work, read on.

Make sure the paper is properly loaded into the paper support. Place the paper in the support all the way to the right side. Move the guide on the left by squeezing and sliding to the left edge of the paper. This helps guide the paper by keeping it straight through printing.

The printer is on but will not print.

The USB cord sends signals from the computer to the printer which tells the printer when it has something to print. If the cord becomes disconnected then no signals will be sent and your document will not print. Check the USB cord to make sure it is securely connected to the printer as well as the computer. Check the paper support for paper. You may have used the last of the paper during your last printing session. If the support is empty then replace the paper. If not, read on.

The problem may be lying with the computer instead of the printer. Make sure the printer software is installed onto the computer. The encoder strip is a thin plastic ribbon that runs through the ink cartridges and attaches at each end of the printer. This strip is covered by many small markings that allow the printer to detect the placement of the ink cartridges and allows it to control the movement positions while printing. If this strip becomes loose or damaged then the ink cartridges will not have movement control and will slam to the side of the printer.
