Prior to any replacements or cleaning, follow the steps Before working inside your computer.
Filter Keys Enabled
Filter Keys is an accessibility feature on Windows machines that causes slow responses or missed input. This can sometimes be enabled by accident due to a shortcut on different machines. To disable, open Settings>Accessibility>Keyboard and toggle Filter Keys Off.
External USB Devices
External devices can sometimes interfere with the onboard keyboard. Disconnect any USB devices, external monitors, or docking stations and restart the laptop.
Corrupted or Outdated Keyboard Driver
The keyboard drives may have become outdated or corrupted and require a fresh install. Enter the Windows search bar and type Device Manager. Expand the Keyboard drop-down menu and uninstall the laptop keyboard driver. If no external keyboards are present then there should only be your laptop keyboard driver available to uninstall. Restart the computer which will automatically install the necessary drivers.
Physical Damage
If the keyboard shows visible wear-and-tear or damage such as missing keys or cracks then it may need to be replaced. Find a suitable replacement keyboard from a vendor of your choosing that meets the requirements of the laptop. Follow the instructions, Removing the palm-rest and keyboard assembly. Once the replacement keyboard is installed, follow the Installing the palm-rest and keyboard assembly instructions.
