When you plug in the charger to your Dell Inspiron 16 5625, it doesn't charge as expected. Follow these suggestions to fix the issue and get your laptop charging.
Before poking around your laptop, make sure the charger is plugged into a working outlet, restart the laptop, and remove anything like USB hubs, flash drives, or other dongles.
Faulty Power Source
· Before anything else, try switching the outlet you’re using. The problem may not be with the computer, but with the power source itself.
· Make sure the cord coming from the outlet is fully plugged into the charging brick.
· Try another charger from a compatible Dell laptop that is either new or is known to work. If the different charger works, then the broken charger should be replaced.
· If it has a dedicated USB-C charging port and the original charger doesn’t work, plug in a low-wattage charger and see if it starts charging. If it does, the port itself could be faulty.
Outdated Operating System or Software Issues
Check for software updates to fix any issues with the operating system. Open the Device Manager and uninstall and reinstall the battery drivers.
Faulty Battery
There is a possibility that the battery itself could be broken. If so, the computer would not be able to charge. In this case, the battery would need replacing. Try these steps first before replacing:
· Try to power it on without the battery connected. If it turns on, the battery is most likely the issue.
· If the battery is old, leaking, or swelling, it may need to be replaced.
· Refer to the user manual and reset the battery by pressing and holding a combination of keys.
· Replace the battery if these recommendations don’t work and your laptop is at least 4 years old. Some Dell laptops have easier batteries to replace than others, and replacement batteries can be found on iFixit.
Faulty Motherboard
If all else fails, replace the motherboard. The charging circuitry can be broken when a battery, charger, or charging port is damaged.
· Examine the motherboard of the laptop for any indications of damage like corrosion, liquid residue, burned parts, or other obvious problems.
· If the components aren’t working correctly then a replacement motherboard is the best option.
If you don’t think you can repair the motherboard yourself, ask a local repair shop!
