Saw Does Not Turn On

"When the trigger is pulled, nothing happens."

Battery does not hold a charge

The battery may not be charged. Plug your battery into the battery charger. Wait as advised by the instruction manual, and reconnect the battery.

Faulty Power Adapter

First ensure that the battery charger is plugged into a power source. The battery charger will have instructions for the user to review the current state of the charger. This will be shown through use of lights with correlating labels. Look over these lights, and if none are present consider purchasing a new battery charger.

Trigger does not work

The trigger safety is located just above the trigger. A red stripe should be visible if the trigger safety is released. If the trigger cannot move and the trigger safety has been checked, consider reviewing the integrity of the safety.

Motor does not run when trigger is pulled

If the previous troubleshooting instructions fail move on to opening the saw (covered in the breakdown report). The motor should move if powered by the original input of 18 volts.

Saw Blade Falls Out

Blade won’t stay in saw

If the blade does not stay in the blade holder first be sure that the blade is being installed correctly. The blade will lock into place via the movement of a yellow arm which will collapse into the saw casing when locked. If this does not lock the blade into place consider purchasing a new blade holder.

Saw Blade Won’t Come Out

Blade is stuck holder

If the blade is stuck inside of the blade holder review the previous bullet point in the troubleshooting page. The mentioned yellow arm should be released. When released this arm sticks out from the saw casing. If this arm will not release try to pry it away with a flat instrument such as a screwdriver—use caution. If the arm will not release or this arm does not help with releasing the blade from the holder move on to opening the saw.

Blade Won’t Cut

Saw blade is not cutting

If the saw blade does not cut see to it that the blade is sharp. Put a fresh blade in the blade holder and see if this improves the saw’s cutting ability.

For Saw Blade Falls Out, also see DeWalt DCS381 Sawblade Locking Mechanism Repair. Often, a little spring/pin comes loose, especially when the saw is turned sideways or upside down. Very simple fix.
