Router won’t turn on

The router will not respond or show any signs of powering on

Power button is in off position

Check to see if the router is switched on. Locate the black button labeled POWER behind the router and press it momentarily.

Faulty power adapter port

Check to make sure the power adapter is plugged into a functioning electrical outlet. If it is, and the adapter is plugged in to the power adapter port on the router, you may have a faulty power adapter cord. Consider replacing the power adapter cord by buying a new one. If that does not work, replace the power adapter port on the router by following this guide.

Power switch is broken

If you cannot press the power switch, it is broken. Replace the power switch by following this guide.

Can’t see wifi on computer/phone

The wifi is not showing up on device, appears to not be able to connect.

Router needs to be restarted

Try unplugging the router, waiting a minute, and then plugging it back into the power outlet or adapter (whichever one is more accessible). If that does not work, replace the reset button by followingthis guide.

Another device is interfering

Conflicting signals may be responsible for connectivity issues. Try turning off all wireless devices and restart the router by unplugging it from the power outlet, waiting a minute, and then plugging it back in again.

Wifi hotspot is out of range

If you are connected to the 5GHz band, try reconnecting to the 2.4GHz band and check the connectivity. If you are connected to the 2.4GHz band on the router, try moving closer to the router or move the router closer to your device. Then restart the router to reconnect.

Faulty ethernet cord

Unplug the ethernet cord, and then plug it back in. Press the reset button on the back of the router. If the reset button is broken, followthis guide.

Faulty motherboard

If your device is still not connecting to the router, a component may be broken inside on the mother board. Followthis guide to replace the mother board.

No lights illuminate on router

The lights on the router are not visible despite the router being powered on.

Router may have crashed

Restart the router by unplugging it for one minute, then plugging it in and turning it on.

Router is on and connected to device but still can’t connect to internet

The router is showing up on the device, yet I still cannot connect to the internet.

Out of range

If the internet connection is weak or disconnected, try moving your device closer to the router to regain connection.

Faulty ethernet port

Restart the internet connection by unplugging and plugging the ethernet cord back in to the router. Make sure the ethernet cord is fully plugged in. You can also reset the router back to factory settings by pressing and holding the reset button for at least 5 seconds. If the reset button is broken, followthis guide.

Router is overheating

Your D-Link DIR-890L is getting overly hot while powered on.

Faulty Heat Sink

Take apart the top of the router using this guide. Make sure the heat sink is attached to the motherboard. If the heat sink has dust or dirt on it, clean the heat sink using compressed air.

Heat Sink is broken

The heat sink is broken, and not cooling down the router properly. Replace the heat sink by following this guide.

Hello, I have a 890L/R. The power light turns on, and keeps blinking every 1 sec. Tried unplugging and plugging, hard reset, and trying to connect through the ethernet. No wifi connection available, and doesn’t connect through ethernet too. What do you suggest?
