The Canon CanoScan N670U is not turning on

My scanner won't do anything or light up.

The cable isn't plugged in

Before activating or using the scanner, ensure that the cable is connected between your computer system and the scanner. Securely plug in the cable to both devices until the scanner lights on and/or your computer has detected the scanner.

The USB port in the scanner is corrupted or bad

If you have checked that the cable is plugged in properly, check for any debris inside your USB port. Clean the inside with a thin cotton swab and pick out any solids with tweezers. Warning: Be patient and gentle while cleaning. Do not use any water-based liquids to avoid corrosion. If you have cleaned the USB port, plugged in your cable, and your computer does not detect the scanner, you may have to replace the port.

The motherboard is corrupted or bad

Ensure that the USB port isn't suffering from any issues and your cable is securely plugged into the port. If you have correctly set up your scanner yet your computer does not detect the scanner, then the motherboard may require replacing.

The operating system may not be supported

If your scanner isn't suffering from hardware issues, then your software may be outdated. For newer versions of Windows (Vista and above) and Mac OS X, the Canon CanoScan N670U will require a driver update. In several cases, the scanner may not support the newer operating system at all. The same applies to many Linux systems. Check the Canon website for any driver updates specifically for the Canon CanoScan N670U.

The motherboard is corrupted or bad

Ensure that the USB port isn't suffering from any issues and your cable is securely plugged into the port. Check if your scanner will function in your current operating system. The Canon CanoScan N670U is producing faulty imagery

The image is distorted, blurred, missing parts, or contains unsightly marks or spots.

The scanned document may be too low quality

Distortions on scanned images may be the result of the original document being too low quality, too small, blurry, or distorted initially. Replace the document with a higher quality one.

The glass is dirty or scratched

Marks or stains on the glass can produce unsightly results. Clean the glass with appropriate glass-cleaning liquid and a microfiber cloth. Warning: Do not use any alcohols or liquids containing thinners or benzene. If any scratches or stains remain on the glass after cleaning, then you may have to replace the glass.

The white document mat is dirty

If you are scanning a transparency and the glass is clean, the white document mat that rests on top of the scanned object may be dirty. If the mat cannot be cleaned, you should replace the document mat.

My scanner won't function with the current operating system on my current computer

Use a computer with an older version of Windows or Mac

Since the Canon CanoScan N670U hasn't had update releases to work with newer operating systems, if you currently possess a computer with a Windows XP (and older versions) or Mac OS 9 (and older versions) operating system, the scanner may be able to function through those computers. Linux systems may not work with the Canon CanoScan N670U.

The driver needs to be updated

Note: Be wary of installing software from sources other than the Canon website. You are responsible for any damages that may be caused from downloading these updates. If your computer is using a Windows 7 (or higher), Mac OS X (or newer), or Linux operating system, you will have to check the Canon website for updates for your specific operating system. If Canon does not support or have updates for your current system, then you may attempt to search user sources for updates. Otherwise, your scanner will not function with your computer.
