Bissell OptiClean Cyclonic Troubleshooting

Vacuum does not turn on when pressing the power button.

Plug in the cord to an outlet that works. Try other outlets if necessary and make sure it is plugged in all the way.

Unplug the vacuum, then plug it back in. Press down on the power button. If it still does not work, try again in a few hours as the machine might have a system in place that turns off the vacuum if it gets too hot.

Vacuum does not pick up dirt and dust as effectively.

Open to top of the vacuum to find the dirt collection box. Take out the dirt collection box and empty it. Make sure to remove any obstructions from the red dirt cup.

Check all three filters (2 dirt filters and 1 air filter) and clean or replace as needed. Clean air filter with a damp cloth. Let the filter dry completely. Check replacement guide for instructions to remove the filter(s).

Remove the hose and reattach it to the vacuum making sure the hose clicks into place properly and is not installed at an angle.

Thoroughly inspect the hose to check for any cracks or holes that may be affecting the suction power. If needed, replace the damaged hose. Check replacement guide for instructions to replace the hose.

Change to the closed setting. Air Flow regulator is located at the end of the hose.

Set to the maximum setting. This is located between the power button and cord recoil button.

Vacuum stops picking up dirt.

Detach the hose from the vacuum and shake the tube. If this doesn’t work, try pushing a duster, or broomstick completely through the tube. This will push any obstruction out to the end of the hose.

To access the brush belt, remove the screws at the bottom of the machine and lift the access plate off. Grab the brush and lift at both ends to remove it, then remove hair, debris, etc. If this does not fix the problem, the belt may be broken. Replace the brush belt using this replacement guide.

Dust is coming out of the vacuum when powered on.

Open to top of the vacuum to find the dirt collection box. Take out the dirt collection box and empty it. Make sure to remove any obstructions from the red dirt cup.

Check all 3 filters to make sure they are properly latched on or determine if they need to be cleaned or replaced. Make sure each fitting is completely latched when putting back on.

Remove the hose and reattach it to the vacuum making sure the hose clicks into place properly and is not installed at an angle.

The vacuum overheats when used giving off an unpleasant odor.

Open to top of the vacuum to find the dirt collection box. Take out the dirt collection box and empty it. Make sure to remove any obstructions from the red dirt cup.

Check all three filters (2 dirt filters and 1 air filter) and clean or replace as needed. Clean air filter with a damp cloth. Let the filter dry completely. Check replacement guide for instructions to remove the filter(s).

Check the vacuum for obstructions. Examine hose, all three filters (2 dirt filters and 1 air filter), attachments, and brushes for clumped dirt, hair, and debris. Clear any obstructions before putting parts back into place. Check replacement guide for instructions to remove the filter(s).

When you press the rewind cord button, nothing happens.

Unplug the power cord from the socket, and straighten out the cord. Make sure the cord is straight with no knots. Press rewind button.

Unscrew the top of the vacuum and find the rewinding spool. There are 6 screws, 4 on the bottom and 2 inside under the dirt collection cup. Gently lift up the top of the vacuum. Don’t damage the circuit board by pulling the top completely off! Pull out the cord all the way and clean the spool. Check to see that spool is correctly placed before gently lowering the top back on.

Unscrew the top of the vacuum and find the rewinding spool. There are 6 screws, 4 on the bottom and 2 inside under the dirt collection cup. Gently lift up the top of the vacuum. Don’t damage the circuit board by pulling the top completely off! Make sure the lever on the spool is intact and matches up correctly with the top of the rewind button. Check to see that spool is correctly placed before gently lowering the top back on.
