If your Asus Chromebook CX1500CKA-AS84F doesn't turn on when the power button is pressed, follow this page for solutions.
Faulty Power Adapter or Charger
If the power adapter is damaged or not providing enough power, the Chromebook won’t turn on.
If you’re using the original Asus USB-C charger, check that both ends of the adapter are securely seated and that the outlet is functioning.
- When the charger is plugged in, the indicator light on the side of the Chromebook should illuminate (orange when charging, green/white when fully charged).
- Try plugging the charger into a different outlet or using another compatible charger if available.
- If the Chromebook still does not show any charging indicator, the problem may be with the adapter, battery, or charging circuit.
- If available, test with another compatible charger. If the Chromebook powers on with a different charger, replace the original adapter.
Dead or Faulty Battery
A discharged or failing battery can prevent the Chromebook from powering on.
- Leave the charger connected for at least 15–30 minutes before attempting to power on.
- If the Chromebook only works when plugged in but shuts off immediately when unplugged, the internal battery is likely failing and needs replacement.
- Inspect the battery if possible: if it looks swollen or misshapen, replace it immediately.
How to replace:
Step 1: Remove Bottom Panel
- Shut down the Chromebook completely.
- Remove all visible screws on the bottom case.
- Check under the rubber feet for hidden screws.
- Use a plastic prying tool to gently separate the bottom cover from the chassis.
Step 2: Disconnect the Battery Cable
- Locate the battery (large rectangular pack).
- Find the cable connecting the battery to the motherboard.
- Use a spudger to carefully disconnect the cable by rocking it side to side.
Step 3: Remove Battery Screws
- Unscrew all Phillips screws securing the battery to the chassis.
- Keep the screws in a safe place for reassembly.
Step 4: Remove Battery
- Lift the battery out from the bottom edge.
- Be careful not to bend or puncture it.
Step 5: Install New Battery
- Place the replacement battery into position.
- Screw it securely into place.
- Reconnect the battery cable to the motherboard.
Step 6: Reassemble Chromebook
- Snap the bottom cover back on.
- Reinsert all screws.
- Power on the Chromebook to confirm the new battery works.
ChromeOS Corruption
Sometimes ChromeOS may freeze on a black screen, making it seem like the Chromebook won’t power on.
- Disconnect all external devices.
- Press and hold the power button for 10 seconds to force a shutdown, then press it again to restart.
- If the system still does not boot, you may need to perform a ChromeOS recovery using a USB drive.
Motherboard Failure
If the power adapter, battery, and display are all functional, but the Chromebook still won’t power on, the problem may lie with the motherboard. The motherboard can be damaged by power surges, liquid spills, overheating, or physical impact. When this happens, the Chromebook may not power on at all.
- Inspect the motherboard for visible damage or burnt components.
- If no other troubleshooting steps work, replacing the motherboard may be necessary.
