Is your Amazon Kindle 8th Generation not responding to input or is responding intermittently? Use this troubleshooting guide to help diagnose why.
Software Glitch
Try performing a hard reset by holding down the power button until the device restarts and the Amazon logo appears. This process forces the Kindle to reboot and often resolves minor software issues. After the reset, check if the touchscreen is functioning properly. If the issue is not resolved, consider performing a factory reset by navigating to Settings > Device Options> Reset to Factory Defaults, but keep in mind it will erase all data.
Faulty Power Button
If a hard reset does not work, it could be that the power button itself is faulty. Inspect the power button for any physical damage or debris. If you there is physical damage, this might be what is causing the Kindle to not power on. You will need to disassemble the device to access the power button. See our replacement guide here Amazon Kindle 8 Power Button Replacement.
Damaged Screen
If a hard reset does not resolve the issue, inspect the screen for any cracks, scratches, or visible damages. Any small cracks can affect its performance. To replace the screen, you will need to disassemble the Kindle. You will need to carefully pry off the screen using a plastic opening tool or spudger, and then heat the kindle with a mini-heat gun or a hair dryer to soften the adhesive that holds it in place. Once the screen is removed, disconnect the old screen from the motherboard, and attach the new screen.
Faulty Motherboard
If the screen is not damaged and soft resets are not working, the issue could be an internal hardware failure, such as the motherboard. You will need to replace it. See replacement guide here Amazon Kindle 8 Motherboard Replacement.
