Is the screen on you rAcer Chromebook C731 T-C42N frozen or unresponsive and can't be operated normally? Use this troubleshooting guide to help diagnose why.
Laptop Screen is On, but the Display is Frozen
If your Chromebook's screen is frozen or unresponsive, your laptop may need to be rebooted:
- Hold the power button down for 10 seconds or until the screen and any lights on the laptop turn off.
- Wait 15 seconds.
- Turn the Chromebook back on by pressing the power button to verify the initial problem has been dealt with.

Laptop is off
Turn it on by pressing the power button.
If this does not work, your Chromebook may have a faulty battery or a bad connection. One solution is removing the battery, and putting it back in after a few minutes. A step by step guide can be found [here].
The device may be in Sleep mode.
Press any key or move your mouse/trackpad to wake the laptop up from sleep mode.
Your hardware ran into an error.
- Hold the power button to force a shutdown
- Unplug the laptop
- Remove the battery
- Hold the power button for 30 seconds
- Replace the battery
- Plug in the laptop
- Try turning it back on again.
If the screen works after this restart:
- Please use Intel’s Driver Support Assistant to update your processor, RAM, storage and any other drivers you may need.
If the screen is still black after this restart:
- Try plugging your laptop into another monitor or TV with an HDMI or DP cord to see if you are having hardware issues with your screen. You may have to change the chosen input on your monitor or TV to the port you are using. Please refer to the user manual of your monitor or TV if you need help with this task.
- If you follow the user manual, you may see your laptop’s login screen on the monitor or TV you plugged into, which means there is a hardware issue with your laptop’s screen.
- If you still don’t see your laptop’s login screen, you may need to replace either your laptop’s processor, hard drive, battery, or RAM.
