The laptop does not show any signs of charging.

Check the plug-in to both the outlet and to the laptop. It is important to ensure that both plug-ins are properly connected; otherwise, the laptop will not be able to charge.

It may sound silly, but more often than not, the outlet is the cause of the problem. Unplug the charger from both the outlet and the laptop, and try a new outlet.

Feel the charger’s cable, and check if there are any bumps, cuts, or tears in the cable. If so, that could be the cause of the disconnect. You will need to look into replacing your charger, so that you are able to safely charge your laptop.

If the charger is not the issue, it is time to look at the battery. Remove the battery, wait a few moments, and then place it back in the laptop. If there is no power, the battery may be the issue. Without a strong battery, a laptop will not be able to hold a large enough charge to power on the laptop. Batteries decay and become less effective as time passes. Look into replacing the battery and see if that resolves the issue.

The laptop appears to be powered-off and will not turn on.

Check that your laptop is plugged in and charged. In addition, the issue may be with the outlet you are using. Try a different outlet and see if your laptop will boot.

If you have another power supply unit, see if using it allows your laptop to boot.

The issue may be the screen. Try turning on the laptop in a dim room to see if there is a faint image. If you hear the fan and other booting up processes but see nothing on the screen then the screen may be the issue.

Sites or programs take a long time to load or respond.

If your computer's hard drive is full, or nearing capacity, it can cause your computer to perform more slowly and take more time to respond as it searches for the desired program or file. Upgrading your hard drive, or regularly deleting unneeded programs or files, can help keep your computer functioning at a healthy speed.

How much RAM (Random Access Memory) determines how many programs your computer can have running at once. If too many programs are open, it can cause your computer to lag as it struggle to maintain everything. Try closing unneeded programs and limit multitasking to prevent lag.

As your computer boots up, it begins running several programs automatically, some of which are pre-existing. Too many startup programs can drastically limit computer start-up speed and performance.

Laptop is warm to the touch.

More common with older laptops, overheating may result in laptops shutting down or showing no sign of charging. Allow the laptop time to cool down and if the issue continues, be sure that air vents are not obstructed in any way.

If overheating continues after giving the laptop time to cool down and checking for any obstructions of the air vents, there is good chance that your internal fan(s) are either malfunctioning and/or damaged. Upon discovering this, consider replacing your internal fan by following this guide.

Cursor shows no sign of movement.

The most common issue that users encounter when their trackpad appears unresponsive, is that the trackpad is simply disabled. To enable your trackpad, apply the following key combination: Fn + F9.

If the previous key combination does not actively enable your trackpad, external devices may be connected that will interfere with the connection between your mousepad and the computer. Be sure to remove all additional devices from computer.

If the issue continues, you may find that your operating system is faulty. The operating system manages computer hardware and software resources which provide the computer it’s common services. If the trackpad appears unresponsive, consider replacing your hard drive by following this guide.
