You might need a new part, but try this: Get to the ‘slide to power off’ screen. Press and hold the home button. DO NOT keep holding power. DO NOT slide to unlock.

I think you should clear the cache, then uninstall and reinstall WhatsApp. (1) From a Home screen, swipe up or down from the center of the display to access the apps screen.
