Important Safety Reminder – Read Before Proceeding
Before attempting to discharge a CRT, make sure you’re not alone. Always have another person in the room while performing this procedure in case something goes wrong. CRT discharges involve lethal voltages, and although injuries are rare when done properly, accidents can happen—especially if you’re startled or working in an unfamiliar environment.
Also:
• Remove all jewelry (rings, bracelets, watches, necklaces). Metal conducts electricity and can cause severe burns or even arc in the presence of high voltage.
• Avoid clothing that builds static (like synthetic fleece, wool, or polyester). Stick to 100% cotton if possible.
• Work on a non-conductive surface, in a dry, well-lit environment.
Respect the danger, work carefully, and you’ll be fine—but having a second person nearby is not just smart, it’s potentially life-saving.
I got as far as this step to do one thing, blow out all the dust. It was far enough and a lot of dust came out. I used a XPower A-2S to blow out the dust.
I concur; the photo in question offers limited guidance. Upon closer examination of the second image, where the chip has been removed, it becomes evident that there are visible traces on the board. Furthermore, the angle at which the screwdriver is positioned suggests that force may have been applied directly to the board, creating an impression of potential leverage.
No explanation was described on how the plastic cap is removed.
The fan connector is a Vertical Insertion (JST)
• Important: These connectors are extremely fragile. Use extreme care. Major repairs may be needed if damaged.
• Use a black stick under the cable, next to the connector, with a finger over the top for support, or grasp cables with tweezers, and lift straight up to remove.
• Keep connector level to board when disconnecting and reconnecting.
• When connecting, verify that the grooves in the connector face down.
• Press evenly when reconnecting or connector can be tipped up and not fully seated.
You’ll need a Torx T6
Is it possible to use an IDE to SATA connector? I want to install my Pioneer BDR burner to potentially use the PMG5 for data disc burning only. Any thoughts?
You are right. the adhesive is here: iPod touch (4th Gen) Adhesive Strips
I didn't use a heat gun but this was due to the glass being rather shattered and not just cracked in the corner. The rule of thumb might be to not use excessive force, if you see that you need to use the heat gun or a blow dryer as someone suggested. I also wanted to point out the the adhesive strip just around the edges was exposed and it is rather strong so I was able to pull it around part of the edge which actually helped the glass disengage.
SAFETY WARNING
Do not put your soldering on the battery, it will explode if you do.
