If you haven't already, try replacing the batteries of the remote, and check the battery terminals for corrosion. Even if you see none, use sandpaper, nail file, or some abrasive to clean the terminals. Also check to make sure nothing is obstructing the IR sender on the remote and the IR receiver on the TV. If all else fails, a new remote may be in order.

What is the model number of your TV?
Try using a digital camera or the camera in a mobile phone to prove whether the problem is the remote control or the IR receiver in the TV.
Turn on the camera or open the camera app in the phone and then point the end of the remote that is usually pointed towards the TV so that you see it in the camera's screen.
The press the Power button on the remote. If it is working you should see a flashing light at the end of the remote when you look at the camera screen.
If you don't see a light flashing then try another button on the remote to see if it works.
If no button works at all, then the remote is faulty.
If only the Power button (and perhaps also the Volume Up/down and Channel Up/down) don't work, but all the other buttons do work, then the button's contacts may be dirty or worn away. You would have to open the remote to fix the problem.
If the power button on the remote works then the IR receiver in the TV may be faulty
