Do I really need one of these to replace the screen on my Galaxy Tab A8?
Does the year matter along with the model number? SMX200NZA.
Last question: there are dozens of screen/digitized replacements, so how do I choose one, except for the cheapest screen?

Looking at the ifixit Samsung Galaxy Tab A8 screen Replacement guide, at 4:17 minutes into the video, (closed captions turned on) it states that there's a cross head screw i.e. Philips head screw, securing the bracket that holds the display flex cable in place. It doesn't specify the size though so you may need to have a #0 or #1 Philips head driver as it looks like a small screw.
As for the display search online for GH81-21915A (examples only) to find suppliers of the display that suit you best. This is the Samsung part number for the SM-X200, SM-X205 series display. Look for "OEM" (original equipment manufacturer) mention in the seller's parts description and not "compatible" or similar perhaps.

No, a Penralobe screwhead is a different shape.
Here's a link that may help.
A Philips head design is near the top of the page and the Pentalobe is towards the bottom.
Hopefully you have the correct Philips head driver size as you may need it as the screw is small.
Here's a link that may help as it correlates the tip size (diameter in millimetres (mm) of a Philips head screw, to the Philips head screwdriver size required
