Repair guides and support for Kenmore washing machines.

Lock keeps clicking and cycle wont start

It is a model 110.21102010 Kenmore washing machine. It worked fine for 1 load, then it stopped when trying to start the following load. The lock clicks on and off, and the lock light keeps flashing. Every other click it locks the lid successfully, and after maybe a dozen or so clicks, the lock light remains red and the lid is unlocked. All the connections are fine, nothing was changed from one load to the next (except the clothes), and I have read about a dozen similar help requests online and watched videos, and can't figure out what the issue could be. I have tried most suggestions I have found, short of replacing parts, which wouldnt make sense as it was doing what it was supposed to just a few minutes earlier. Has anyone seen this happen before?

Hi @retroreprints

Here's the tech sheet for the washer that may help.

Go to p.18 Test #8 Lid Lock to see how to check if the lock is OK.

If the lid lock is OK electrically as per the test, run the Diagnostic test mode as per p.2 to see what error codes if any show up, (see p.3 Fault/Error Code Display Method chart for how to interpret the status lights).

If you find the problem and it's a faulty part that needs replacing here's the parts list that is useful.

Locate the wanted part in the list and note the manufacturer's part number that is listed with it. Search online for the part number only, to find suppliers that suit you best.

This is an older model machine and has no digital display that would produce codes, and I dont have any technician gadgets that might be able to provide them either. Everything was working perfectly one minute, the next it starts doing this.

@retroreprints

Were there no lights showing on the control panel during the tests e.g. fill wash rinse etc?

Run the diagnostics and post back the light sequence (if any shown) or the error code that the blinking light pattern relates to when it fails.

Without knowing the fault code and without a DMM (digital multimeter) it will only be guesswork and it is no use just throwing parts at the machine in the hope that one will fix the problem.

Do you know anyone who has a DMM (digital multimeter) that you could borrow or who may be able to check the machine for you with the aid of the tech sheet?
