@paulymrpaulymr you are not giving us a lot of information. Anyhow, since it works when you plug it in but it does not when unplugged, replace the battery. Use Sostituzione batteria iPod Nano 3a generazione for that. Repalcment batteries are still avaaible on here iPod nano (3rd Gen) Battery
